Hatch day!

in #ungrip8 years ago

Our Barred Rock Chickens are hatching. We don't get 100% hatch and some even die in the shell. That is the circle of life. Birth can be a messy, ugly, painful, wet and cruel, but equally beautiful as well. I love their cheeps!

We work hard to hatch our own chickens so that we are not dependent upon the commercial hatcheries. It just breaks my heart to buy chicks from them as I don't think they respect the sacredness of life with their industrial processes. Being independent also demands that we do this ourselves. It is extra work, turning eggs three times a day, constantly checking temperatures and humidity. I even made our own incubator too.

Being able to hatch and brood chicks is an important step in our independence and freedom. All life is sacred. They serve us well as we steward them too.

We found that our hatch must happen in May, June, July or August as that is the only time of the year where we can produce enough electricity to run the incubator and brooders. We tried for years to do our hatches in March & April, but we always ran out of power and had to run the generator. So for us, hatch window is late spring and summer only.

Peepers!!!! Avia is in love!!! Avia says that they are our best layers!
Did you know, that now the hatcheries sterilize the hens? they will never reproduce. they are strictly made for laying. They are vicious to any brooder to knock them off the nest and smash their eggs. It was a nightmare, having them here.
I am so thrilled that you are able to incubate. I think I may have to look at increasing the solar system :)

It has been a challenge, but we are doing it. It costs time, but that is all. So it is well worth the investment! I would still love it if they could do this work themselves. The duck did fine, but the chickens don't seem to want to sit yet. I suspect is is due to the fact that I don't have suitable environment for them to be broody. So something to work on.

I'm glad that Avia is in love!!!! lol <3

I have chicken eggs under my duck LOL we have 2 ducks setting. hoping that we have a good hatch ratio. fingers crossed. they are pretty pristine in their nesting.

How cute!! Make sure u keep us updated on their growth now that u showed us their hatch day 🧡🐣🐔🐓

Will do! <3

A full-frontal close up perfectly described in the opening sentence. Thanks for sharing hatch day!

Your welcome my friend. Glad that you dropped by to check it out. Peace to you brother. How is witness life treating you? ;)

I had to take a look at these little fluffy creatures :)

Well we are witnessing things, that is for sure. I guess overall we cannot complain, Paula has done a great job - I'm moral support and interaction for the most part.

Thanks for asking!

Good job,,
I pray to God, that you success your heard hatcheries life..

life is a struggle. let's think our birth. among lacks of sperm ,only one is necessry for our birth, and the only one is selected after a big fight among themselves. many of sperm have been destroyed then . but they give us an information that if you can't know to struggle, you can't survive. we know survival is the fittest. this proverb is suitable not only for us but also for all the creation of god in this universe...
