A quick message to my supporters

in #ungrip7 years ago

I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for all of you who resteem or upvote my work.  There are no words to express how much I cherish each and every single one of you.  In the spirit of gratitude and appreciation, I notice that a bunch of you are missing out on the rewards of your support.  This happens by voting on my posts within the first 15 minutes.  I ask that if you have vote bots up voting my work on your behalf, configure them to wait at least 15 minutes before you upvote.  Those who cannot afford to have their curation work burned and returned to the pool are the ones that I'm concerned about the most. The amount of curation rewards being burned due to early voting is significant!

I thought you all should know.  Sadly though, most won't see this post in order to learn from it.  :(

I always forget that the same rule applies to comments. That i need to remember to wait until a comment is 15 mins old to vote on it! Oh rules 🤷‍♀️. Haha 🐦

Oh I didn't think you got curation for comments and it went straight to them. But I don't know where that came from either. You'd think we'd know after.all this time lol

I don't think there are curation rewards for comments but the author won't get the rewards they will get burned if the upvote happens before 15 mins is my understanding 🤷‍♀️

I don't know about that one. Anybody?

A comment works exactly the same way as a post with regards rewards.

Hopefully curation is removed from the consensus layer entirely. Its very existence implies that visibility and viewership are hard coded into the blockchain. In reality, it is the frontend that decides what content appears at the top of the list, and anyone can make a frontend for Steem with whatever rules they choose.

Until then we'll have to keep reminding users about our needlessly overcomplicated rule set.

Curation is important in my view. There is so much information out there, the curators play an important role in finding the diamonds in the rough, rewarding them and bring more exposure. The curators have some work to do in order to do it fairly, equitably and honourably. I'm not convinced that the big curators on this blockchain have figured that out yet. The small curators can help by finding the very good curators and supporting their work, IF they don't want to take curation seriously and learn the ropes.

As for me, I would prefer to write than curate, so I recently tagged along with tribesteemup curation trail. It is the least I can do to help others.

I knew I was forgetting something.
Your 1 cent upvotes are getting dusted.
Anything below 2 cents gets rounded down to zero at the end of the week.

Curation is important, but it doesn't belong in the consensus layer. The way in which we force every user on the platform to participate in this broken system is unfair and counterproductive. Curation should be an opt-in mechanic, and we can see in the API that this was the original intention:

Scrolling through your recent-replies, it looks like your standard upvote is 1 cent. You have several that are about to pay out in the next hour. You can easily see that they are all getting rounded down to zero.

This is why I upvote my own comments that get upvoted to 1 or 2 cents, so they don't get dusted.

This post will be paid out in under an hour. It will get rounded to zero, as will all your other one penny upvotes that stand alone.

This is all new to me. Ill have to keep it in mind
