"A Seagull" - A Maritime Exercise In Gouache

Today, I present to you a quick exercise in gouache. A while back, our friend Maik (@fotogruppemunich) had done a post with some nice maritime photos of the Warnemünde coast on the Baltic Sea. I had bookmarked his post for painting inspiration; and today, I grabbed one of the pics for my gouache painting.

Heute präsentiere ich euch eine schnelle Übung mit Gouache. Vor einiger Zeit hatte unser Freund Maik (@fotogruppemunich) einen Beitrag mit schönen maritimen Bildern der Küste in Warnemünde gepostet. Ich hatte mir diesen Post als Inspiration zum Malen gemerkt, und heute habe ich mir eins der Bilder für mein Gouache-Gemälde geschnappt.

Maik, das ist ein ganz tolles Foto. Hoffentlich gefällt Dir, was ich damit veranstaltet habe!

 

 

 
Gouache being so versatile, it wasn't strictly necessary to paint around the bird. However, I wanted to preserve the whiteness of the bird's body. If you compare it with the whitecaps you can see that the white gouache is never as bright as the paper.

 
Gouache ist ja sehr vielseitig, es war also nicht wirklich nötig den Vogel zu ummalen. Ich wollte aber das Weiss des Vogelkörpers bewahren. Wenn ihr den mit den Schaumkronen vergleicht, seht ihr deutlich, dass weisse Gouache niemals so hell wie das Papier leuchtet.
