My Travel Log : Beijing - Great Wall of China

in #travel8 years ago

Hi! I’m Jason, a Texas native, who, not too long ago, left my career in Financial Planning to become a world traveler. Since then, I’ve traveled to over 20 countries and have marked some Amazing destinations off of my personal bucketlist. My ongoing mission is to continue travelling the world to see and experience as much as I possibly can.

Throughout my travels, I have seen so many beautiful things, met so many wonderful people, and experienced so many unique cultures. As a fairly new member of the Steemit community, I wanted to start writing a regular travel log to share just a small piece of some of the things I have seen and maybe even encourage some of you to begin your own journey.

The first destination I want to share with y'all is my visit to Beijing China. In particular I wanted to start the series by sharing with you my visit to the Great Wall of China. This engineering masterpiece was built around 220 BCE by the first Emporer of China, Qin Shi Huang. It was built to protect the Chinese empire from invasion by Barbarians and other nomadic nations.

As you can see from the pictures, the wall is vast and stretches across roughly 13,000 miles of deserts, grasslands, and mountains. It is made up of a series of walls, watch towers, and various other structures.

If you plan on visiting, I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes. The terrain is rough and rocky and the wall itself has begun to deteriorate in various parts. There are some points where the steps are very steep so for some people like me who are not in the best shape, walking the length of the wall can be a workout in itself.

The Great Wall is one of the major attractions in Beijing and although it is large, it is said that the wall, cannot be seen from space or the moon. It does however have several points which offer stunning views of various beaches and mountain ranges.

Although the walk was a bit rough, there was something very peaceful and pure about visiting the Great Wall. The view from different sections of the wall were simply amazing and it is an attraction I would recommend anyone to put on their list of places to visit.

I hope you enjoyed the first part of my travel series. Please follow me and comment below if you would like to see more.
