Ronnie James Dio was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. As an Italian descendent who moved from Cortland, New York to Portsmouth.

Dio is very familiar with opera performances. One of his influences was a tenor singer Mario Lanza. First get formal music lessons from the age of 5 with learning to play trumpets. While in high school, Dio playing band. One of his bands in school was "The Vegas Kings" which later changed his name to "Ronnie and the Rumblers" and then changed again to "Ronnie and The Red Caps". Dio's musical career began in 1957 while in high school while forming "The Vegas Kings" as mentioned earlier. Dio name taken from his last name, namely Padavona-inspired mafia figure, Johny Dio. Together with "The Vegas Kings" which has changed its name to TheRedcaps has released two singles, first "Conquest / Lover" where Dio has not played metal music, but rock n roll music in the 1950s. The single is instrumental. In her second single, "An Angel Is Missing / What'd I say", Dio became lead vocal. When listening to Dio songs early in his career, it is in stark contrast to Dio in era of 1970-1980's which is very fierce.

In the early 1960s with "The Prophets", Dio played the most popular "Doo Woop" music of the years. And the metal aura began to emerge as "The Prophets" transformed into "The Electric Elf" which added personnel as keyboardists. Then, the name The Electric Elf shortened to Elf in 1972 released his debut titled the same as the name of his band. "Elf flutter" produces 3 albums to 3 albums. Until then Ronnie James Dio proposed Ritchie Blackmore to fill lead vocals on Rainbow's first album in 1975. And automatically Elf was dissolved. Through Rainbow, Dio's career as a metal music legend began to appear. Together with Rainbow, Dio survived three albums until 1979 when released album Down To Earth, Dio position was replaced Graham Bonnet. However, Dio after leaving Rainbow did not stop his music career. After being released from Rainbow in 1979, Dio joins Black Sabbath to Ozzy Osbourne. Together with Black Sabbath, Dio filled out vocals on the album Heaven and Hell (1980). Ronnie James Dio with Black Sabbath filled out three albums besides Heaven and Hell (1980) and Mob Rules which included Vinny Appice as drummer. After Mob Rules, Dio left Black Sabbath and returned again in 1992 with the release of the album Dehumanizer. And finally completely leave Black Sabbath after the release of Dehumanizer. Post with Black Sabbath, with Vinnie Appice, Ronnie James Dio formed a heavy metal band by carrying his last name as a band name.

Dio was formed in 1982 with his legendary debut album "Holy Diver". Dio's music career is very long. Last in 2004, released an album "Master of The Moon". While with Dio, in 1986 Ronnie James Dio created a charity project by collecting heavy metal / hard rock guys to create a charity project called "Hear 'n Aid". Hear 'n Aid is studded with heavy metal stars, such as Dokken, Quiet Riot, WASP, Iron Maiden, and many more are included in the project.

After Dio's vacuum since 2004, Ronnie James Dio later formed a music project called "Heaven and Hell" where the personnel are members of Black Sabbath. Heaven and Hell produced a studio album released in 2009 with "The Devil You Know", having previously released a compilation album in 2007 Black Sabbath: The Dio Years with 3 new songs. After the release of The Devil You Know's album, Dio's health is declining. Until in 2010, exactly on May 16, Dio died after previously struggling against stomach cancer that attacked him.

But news about Dio death is very mysterious, this is because the place where Dio died until now unknown, Even his own wife, Wendy Dio did not mention clearly where Dio died. What is known is that Dio was treated at a health clinic in Houston, USA

I had no idea he was a transplant to NH. It makes sense, such a free spirit to move to the Libertarian stronghold. Did he end up staying in NH? I remember seeing a video in which he gave an interview and tour of his home? I was curious if that was in the New England area.
