Real Life Captured #128: Montevideo Uruguay! Part Five (10 Photos with Travel Pro Captions!)
Hey there my Steemit friends! In this "Real Life Captured Series" I do my best to bring you exactly that; the real life captured from destinations all around the world! After eleven years of travel experience my favorite thing to do is walk around! That's right, I simply like to go to foreign countries and walk around. I observe (and now photograph) the people, food, culture, and way of everyday life and bring it to you in this "Real Life Captured Series".
Here we find ourselves in Montevideo, the Capital of Uruguay. It's a small country, with a population of only about three and a half million. They have a very warm and European culture. The people were friendly, the streets were clean, and the food was very good! I felt welcome here and it is a place I would consider coming back to.
Uruguay considers themselves like the brothers of the Argentinian people. A total independent country yet very similar to their neighbors. One thing that separates them from Argentina is their love for Yerba Mate, an herb drink that is packed with caffeine. They drink twelve kilos of this per person per year! While their neighbors north in Southern Brazil, and to the west across Rio De La Plata, Argentinia drink about half that.
So if you you are wondering what some of the special cups and straws are and the thermos people are carrying around, it's all about the Yerba Mate! Besides that, the over all vibe of Uruguay is not very Latino, it's much more European. Even the people have no indigenous genetics and are almost entirely of Italian and Spanish decent.
Another thing that separates them from Peru to Mexico is they speak a dialect of Spanish that really screwed me up! I had no problem communicating in other Spanish speaking countries but once I got to Uruguay they could understand my textbook Spanish, but I could often barely figure out what they were saying. Anyway, let's get into these photos and have a look around. Let's Go!
How about that! An evening class at a culinary school on a main road. Looks like chefs on display. The food is real good quality in this country.
They do great European style pastries in this country and can be found in the windows of bakeries all around.
It's a beautiful day to catch a fish. The weather was really comfortable in Uruguay in April; hardly any rain and often sunny skies.
This beach is very popular and is centrally located in the city.
Montevideo, a port city surrounded by water!
There were a lot of nice statues and monuments all over this city.
Johnny Rockets! In Uruguay! Really?, but then again I saw one in Lima Peru!
Street View! Montevideo Uruguay!

I remember a photo of a guy who claimed to have been a drug addict at the time. There was a photo takes of him with friends or family or something, and in the photo there's a really creepy dog face with yellow eyes by his shoulder, staring at the camera. Obviously a dog couldn't have gotten it's face up there, and anyway he would have noticed or at least recognized the dog if there was one in the house.
Apparently he took it as a warning that there was evil in him or something like that and stopped doing drugs. I haven't been able to find the photo since I saw on some Animal Planet show a couple years ago. I don't believe in the supernatural, but it's pretty creepy. So if anyone has it/can track it down for me, I'd be very happy. I'm sure it's buried somewhere deep inside the internet.
AWESOME!
