Talk to Yourself to Achieve Success - TheGrayContest Week 3

When I was a child I spent a lot of time by myself. And like many children I would talk to myself. Yes, I know, it may seem a bit crazy, and yet, I still talk to myself from time-to-time. I give myself little pep talks; encouragement throughout the day or small talks to bounce ideas off the wall of my mind.

John Maxwell, the leadership expert, speaker, and author, has said, “Remember, man does not live on bread alone: sometimes he needs a little buttering up.” It is your job to be the butterer when no one else is around to do it for you.

Giving yourself an internal pep talk can go a long way toward improving the moment and reducing your anxiety about a situation. Sometimes you just need to talk yourself through the problem to find the solution.

Now, I am not suggesting that you walk around muttering to yourself, and answering your own questions. I am suggesting that a positive attitude comes from self-encouragement. Sometimes you may feel beaten down, discouraged, and unworthy of success. In those moments, you have a responsibility to pick yourself up, congratulate yourself on your accomplishments, and boost your self-esteem.

The popular Tulsa, Oklahoma doctor of philosophy and family therapist Asa Don Brown says “Self-talk reflects your innermost feelings.”

You must be your own best cheerleader. As much as everyone might love and care for you, they too have their own worries and challenges. It is not their responsibility to pick you up every time you need encouragement. In your quest to create a positive life, with an open heart, you must build yourself up. You must take charge and make it happen. No one else can do it for you. It is your responsibility.

There is no specific formula for doing this. You can do the talking internally or by writing down your thoughts. The main thing is to reflect and boost your own self-esteem with positive self-talk. Think about your gifts, your gratitude, and your dreams. Direct your thoughts toward encouraging yourself to remain positive, thankful, and worthy of receiving everything you have asked for in life.

Your positive self-talk will start to make a difference in your daily attitude and others will notice you have a sense of purpose; a sense of accomplishment. Continue to bolster your own self esteem with positive self-talk. The results will be readily apparent to yourself and everyone you meet.

Amazing photo :)

Great advice, I have solved many problems or felt relief from anxiety by being able to talk to myself at times even aloud, some good ol' swearing and then some clarity.

I sometimes find myself immersed in these conversations, and the pow, I get the answer I need.
