Erawan High Tea Review: Afternoon Indulge

in #steempress5 years ago (edited)

We stopped for lunch at the Erawan Tea Room and the hardest thing for us to do there was choosing the dessert. Therefore, the Erawan high tea set was the only reasonable option for us. They serve traditional Thai inspired afternoon tea, with all the traditional Thai desserts some of which we tried for the first time, so this was a high tea we were truly looking forward to. Erawan Tea Room is Bangkok's gem.

Tea Selection

For this high tea, we chose the Fancy Sencha and fresh Thai butterfly pea flowers tea. I can still recall the taste of our cocktail with the main ingredient the Butterfly pea flowers. The butterfly pea flowers provided an earthy taste to the tea and a deep blue color that changes when the acid is added. This is a herbal tea rich with antioxidants and caffeine free.

In their small store, you can buy also a tea you have at Erawan high tea set. We got us some tasty Buddha Ice Flower.

A lot of us think that green tea is the healthier option, and Butterfly pea is one as well: it has been proven to boost brain activity and some of its flavonoids even increase collagen production. Maybe my tea was even healthier than Ian's! Regardless, green tea is no joke either, especially the organic one. Ian's Fancy Sencha is a green tea with a refreshing taste and fruity aroma. The whole tea leaves colored the water in light green shades, which also seemed yellow with the lighting change.

The first we tried was a steamed flower-shaped dumpling filled with crabmeat: the seasoning was pleasant and it allowed the crab to really shine. The light blue color hinted that a Butterfly pea was also present in the dough.

Our next bite was a deep-fried cup generously filled with a delicate tuna salad. It was topped with some fresh mint, which gave it a nice color, and it counterbalanced the potential heaviness of the dough. We love bite-size servings that allow us to go from a crunchy crust to a soft mousse.

This is how the Erawan high tea set looks like. For traditional bites the best option if you ask me.

The curry mousse we had was worlds away from the previous bite. It wasn't too strong to taste and the creamy texture complimented the soft prawn. The sweet steamed shrimp worked very well with the curry seasoned mousse.

It is spacious and warm.

Amazingly Good Sausage

The orange tapioca ball had a lovely “bounce” and an enjoyable chewy texture with a satisfying filling made of lychee and yellow beans. It was amazing how the ball didn't stick to our teeth so we were soon ready for the beloved sausage. Thai people love their sausages, that’s a fact. After tons of street versions, we finally get one slightly more sophisticated!

Traditional Thai savoury
Amazingly good traditional Thai savoury.

Here they served us grilled sour pork sausages with pickled ginger. We liked the meaty filling that wasn't too salty and the pickled ginger caused the flavor to evolve in more refreshing notes. The sausage was exquisite on its own so our habit of eating sausage with bread became just a memory, not something we craved. The last of the savories was the chicken puff with basil. The moist chicken was seasoned with curry that gave it more flavor and we liked it very much. To be honest, we weren’t even hungry, but we’re sure no one there could tell!

Literally every bite was delicious.

Scoones

Before the sweets, we stopped for mini-scones. We liked the taste of the bite-size scones with their crunchy exterior. Their petite shape was really lovely and they made a nice base for a very tasty homemade strawberry jam. This was the first time that we had mini-scones for afternoon tea and with such a diverse selection, we didn't feel deprived. How could we, if we had all the Thai sweets still waiting for their turn.

With some nice details. It is always great to see some historical articles on the wall.

Sweets @ Erawan High Tea

The first one was the crispy rice pudding with filling, which to our surprise really fitted in the sweet box. The pumpkin, spring onion, taro, and corn resembled, in our mind, more to the main course. However, with different seasonings, it made for a juicy and very pleasing start to this portion of the meal. Next, the traditional mango sticky rice had a succulent mango on top. The perfectly ripe fruit added juices to the coconut flavored rice.

Thai sweets
Which Thai dessert is our favorite? Hard to say though. Sticky rice with mango maybe.

Another nod to tropical fruit was the banana pistachio fritter, with an incredibly delicious and moist banana. It is not a secret that bananas in the tropics taste far better than the one we can buy in Europe or North America. Fresh is fresh and the varieties here are much more delicious. The same goes for the durian cheesecake with mango cream: its delightful durian mousse was gentle with typical cheesecake characteristics.

Lights
The lighting here is amazing!

We consider this a perfect encounter for durian skeptics and lovers of this dramatic fruit. The raspberry-lychee tartlet was another mouth-watering delight. The caramel resemblance was very present in the crispy bean crapes, but it wasn’t too sweet. The same goes for a combination of invigorating passionfruit on top of the chocolate cup and sweet banana cream. The fluffy Thai tea castella cake was a nice finish to our afternoon tea experience.

Details are simple, traditional and nice.

Conclusion

This high tea experience at the Erawan Tea Room was a real culinary experience. All of the food was delicious and genuinely Thai. After all, the “tea” is in their name and they know how to serve tea here. And not only that, we finished our visit here with rare Black Ivory Coffee. There is not a lot of opportunities you can find this rare gem. Erawan Tea Room – all compliments from our behalf!

This super rare Black Ivory Coffee was too tempting. If you are in Bangkok, just go here and have at least this coffee. Best coffee we have tried so far!

Don't think I'll ever make it to Bangkok, but I gotta say I think that would be one of my first stops if I ever get the chance.

Hey. You have a good taste and this means a lot ;) Thank you for stopping by

This looks like such a cool experience. You had me salivating at the thought of that sticky rice and mango. It is probably one of my favorite deserts. Every year I work in Las Vegas and there's this restaurant there that has it. It's so hard to come by because Mango's aren't always available. I can't imagine how good that must have been. Having in Thailand.

My friend is currently in Cambodia at the moment and on his way over there. I'll be sure to give him this recommendation! It looks like such a cool spot. Everything from the decor to the food and tea. I'm sure he'd love it.

And that coffee!!!! Ahhhhh I want to try it so bad hahaha I am always down to try out some new coffee. It looks fabulous.

Thanks so much for sharing! Hopefully my friend has the chance to stop by this place and check it out. Wish I was there with him to experience it. Cheers!

Hey. Thank you for stopping by. Yes, you should tottaly stop here. It is simply the best.

This is a great review of the Erawan tea room. I have always believed that green tea is very healthy until I found out about the butterfly pea flower. It is amazing and full of antioxidants. I love it and I love the color. It's a pity that you didn't show how it changes the color to pink when you add a little bit lemon. It's a magic :)

The ambiance is truly stunning. I haven't been to Thailand yet but I've imagined something very different not this trendy and modern. It's a perfect place to eat.

I love how you describe all meals. You have a great talent and huge vocabulary. I have specifically enjoyed how you described the desserts and the sticky rice with mango sounds very good. And I'm not even talking about banana pistachio fritter.

When I first tried Durian at my in laws who are from Indonesia I thought I would vomit. I couldn't be in the same room with Durian. But one simply has to give it a chance and then it's fine. It's so sweet and delicious but I do understand why some people can't stand it.

Overall, it's been great to read your review and if I ever happen to be in Thailand and they have vegan option, I will definitely visit this place.

I like it because my origins although they are not Asian are linked to Asian culture, my parents are Chilean and Argentinean, in Chile there is a clear influence of English customs among them take the Tea and the English adopted this tradition of the Asian. In summary all my childhood and to this day has been linked to taking tea daily at a specific time, on the Argentine side there is also a tradition of taking an infusion but with a herb called Mate which is highly consumed in northern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile and all these places take different forms.

on the other hand I loved the sandwiches to drink the tea, and called me the rice with mango sticky because my name in steemit is in Spanish but in English would be rice with mango and I put it because it is one of my favorite desserts. :D

The mango as well as the banana are very fresh and in variety, Venezuela is tropical and therefore we share part of the same fruits.

The photographs are really excellent, they show very well the details of decoration and of the ceramics of which they are very laborious.

Thank you for sharing this publication, very well deserved curie.

greetings, peace and love

Greetings to Venezuela. It is nice to hear that. I hope your country will be a nice place to travel again on the near future so webcan come and try this amazing food there as well. Thank you for stopping by

@wnfdiary, I must pay a visit when i travel to bangkok. It look so elegant and atmosphere was so cool. I love it very much, oh yes classic, this is the word I should say. It very classic and like english tea time.

Your photos is so beautiful and gave justice to the environment. You travel a lot?

Hey. Thank you! We are on the road one year now. So yeah. We rravel a lot I guess :)

This is another great review from you! I read the first review (when you had lunch there) and I can still remember those mesmerizing chairs in the first photo😀 and oh, those plates too (seems like the "duck" design of it seem to be missing today. Lol)

That place reaally is beautiful yet with minimal decoration. The thing I didn't notice in the first one however, is the little bits of history on the wall, it really does for a nice decor in a "traditional themed" restaurant (is that what it is?)

I really do love the look of the orange Tapioca ball, looks like its a really tasty one, and I like the little bit of "leafy decor" on it. seems like its look lived up to its taste. Lol!

What other variation of tea do they have?

Hey. Thank you for stopping by. Yes, this place is charmy. There is a photo of their tea collection. Check it out ;)

That review looks expensive. Like really expensive to experience what it feels like to be in your shoes when you were evaluating the experience. These are actually cool shots of the place by the way. Your photography skills would do great for tourist attractions :D

He he thank you. To be honest we are trying to avoid tourist places as much as we can. Well if we visit one than you can except diffenrent photo. We hate mainstream. Thank you for stopping by

Wow the place look so nice!
