Wrest Park, Bedfordshire, England

So, I visited Wrest Park as a festival was taking place there, the St. George Day festival. I figured, that since I paid the entry fee for the festival I would visit the buildings and park as well, so that’s exactly what I did. Like many of the sites I visited while in England I had no idea this place existed till I saw it on a website along with the advertisement for the festival. I figured, what the heck so I jumped in the car and off I went.

The buildings and grounds are huge (that’s a technical term I use frequently). I walked in the main building and it if filled with art, exquisitely crafted decor, sculptures and beautiful furnishing among other things. Being a regular guy I would probably never even think to have any of this in my house, probably because you could put 100 of my houses in this thing. 🙂 I don’t have a huge knowledge base on art or architecture or anything even remotely close. I think it is incredible that people can design and craft works of art and these beautiful buildings as I have no artistic talent at all.

The rooms are magnificent in their appearance and appear to be at a level where kings and queens could spend time in. There are huge dining and entertaining areas where the rich no doubt spent considerable time rubbing elbows, networking and talking about their most recent fabulous trip to somewhere exotic. You could spend hours walking through this place as there must be dozens of rooms each one tastefully appointed with furnishings most of the world can only dream of owning or even seeing. I did wander around for a while admiring all the beautiful items but eventually drifted out toward the pond area as there appeared to be another building way out in the back.

The pond was also quite a feature as it is surrounded with manicured shrubs and a well manicured lawn. I believe I saw birds of some sort floating on the pond and enjoying the day. The trip to the outbuilding was a walk, perhaps several hundred yards as the property must be hundreds of acres or at least it seemed so. The outbuilding or pavilion looked like something out of medieval England. I went in the pavilion and it appeared as if some repairs had been made in the recent past. There wasn’t much to see as far as I could tell, maybe it is place to come out for a picnic and set in the shade while admiring the pond and home from afar. It was quite magnificent and in accord with the remainder of the place I visited that day. I enjoyed my day and wondered what it must be like to be able to live in such a place and how lucky the former inhabitants must have been.

Oh, did I mention this place is a country estate? Can you imagine that? I’m bored with the castle dear, lets go to our tiny country estate and see what the common folk are up to. Just kidding, but it sounded funny didn’t it? Come on, you laughed.
