How to install a free OS like Linux Mint 18 on your machine
In this video you will see the essential steps you will need to do once you burned the iso of the dvd on a physical one or unetbootin it on an usb.
Steps are:
https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
https://unetbootin.github.io/ if you want to put the iso on a usb
https://www.cdburnerxp.se/ if you want to burn your iso on a dvd
Quite easy, for the first, you will need to insert your clean formatted usb, pick the iso, and choose your usb letter, then you click next and wait.
For the other, install cdburner and then burn iso to dvd, put a slow multiplier and burn it like you would burn anything else ;)
- Insert the dvd/usb and let it start
- Run Linux Mint 18
- Click on install
- Pick the language
- Decide if you want third part tools like mp3 support, flash player and such
- This is an important step: Make sure you know which hd or partition the OS will go.
- Format that only partition and if it's big enough, give at least 7 gb of / and rest for home(or how much you would love to give it for that)
7. Once you have setted the first / as primary, that's important guys, you can go on to set up the other partitions.
8. Once you have done that, you can proceed and accept the changes.
9. Then decide timezone, user name/computer name/password of your computer
10. Your password must be strong for you but also easy to remember. It will be useful for important stuff like installing applications, updating the system and sudo commands.
11. Once you have done that let it finish to install
12. Restart the pc taking off the cd/usb
Now the easy part:
- Right click on the application panel, all settings, addons, and follow up what I install in the video
- Apply everything you selected and installed, and have fun.
- ???
- Profit!
Have fun with your new shiny free OS that won't ask you for money to upgrade it.
