How are we doing today? How was our day? I trust it was splendid? Awnnn mine was awesome.
With joy in my heart am glad to write about the diary of my day the 22-03-2021 Tuesday precisely, Remember my last post I talked about me preparing for (soutenance) in french language which means defence in English language, oh my God it was a successful one. That Tuesday morning I woke up not tensed so relaxed, I had my devotion as usual though not a long one then I had to glance my project work again but this time I only went through the key points I pened down while I was studying, so I did that for about 30 minutes then guess what I started sorting out clothe to wear, ofcause it was a cooperate dress, so I need a good dress combination, after searching and matching clothes for a while, in the process my friend came in, her name is Kelly, her suggestion helped me in concluding on a cloth, so I finally arranged a black Bishop coller necked black long sleeves top and a short flowering skirt....voilà......
I quickly took my bath, dressed up and we set out for school at about 9:13 am.
when we arrived school we went straight to the venue of the defence which is the school language laboratory on second campus, we met our classmates outside the house but nothing was going on yet, the HOD(Head of department) hasn't come, we waited for close to an hour before the HOD came and addressed us.
In his speech, he first of all appreciated us and congratulated us for making it to the final phase of our degree program. In his word "the pick of education",. He said some students did very well in their result while others did poorly and will come back for an extra year. He advices that students should not forget their teachers that relationship should still continue after school because education goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. He finally ended his speech by saying he will not be around for the defence because of his busy schedule for the day but he left capable hands to conduct the defence, he further said students should relax and not be tensed over the defence because it will be a lively one.
The defence started as lecturers shared us into two groups, I was in the second group, names were been called sequentially according to matriculation number, it was not a group defence but individually, so it took alot of time, I was called in about 4:00 pm wow.. I was so exhausted only took soft drink and snack since morning but trust me the joy that I was going to be done with school that day overwhelmed the tiredness.
When I came in, I greeted in french ofcause my defence is in french so I said bonjour messieurs meaning good day sirs because they were more than one, I was asked to seat down so I sat down which made me less tensed and relaxed.
They asked the topic of my project, I told them "The Exploitation of the Blacks by the Whites as seen in the old man and the medal by Ferdinand Oyono".
I was asked the objective of my work, I told them the aim of my work is:
1: To conscientize the public in analysing the different themes of exploitation as seen in the oldan and the medal.
2: To sensitize Africans on how they were been brutalised,exploited and oppressed during the colonial era.
Thirdly I was asked the name of the hero in the novel so I said "Meka".
Th next question was who is Meka and what happened to him in the novel so I said Meka was the old man who gave his land to the white missionaries and gave up his two sons to fight during the world war who lost their lifes In the cause of the war, the white men saw the act of huge sacrifice and decided to honour him with a medal.
Some other questions came afterwards which I cannot remember properly. Finally the coordinator said "merci mademoiselle" meaning thank you Miss and I left. Wow...I felt so relieved that am done with this phase of my academics, I went out met my friend and we went home that was almost 6:00pm so tired, you can imagine that long day but the excitement of being a graduate was on a high scale.
