Ready to build a racing drone? Here are the parts you will need
Considering building a racing drone? The build is not that difficult, but you will need to start with a basic parts list.
The first thing you will need is a frame. The frame is generally carbon fiber and shaped in an X. The four motors mount on each carbon fiber arm of the frame.
To regulate the power/speed going to the motors, you will need four electronic speed controllers (aka esc).
The ESCs connect to the Flight Controller (aka FC) which acts as the brains of the rig.
An RC radio receiver (aka receiver) is also attached the the flight controller and generally receives a 2.4ghz signal.
The Video Transmitter (aka VTX), as seen above, connects a standard definition camera to the operator via a 5.8ghz signal.
The VTX will require an antenna to transmit on.
Finally, you will need a radio
propellers, battery straps, and a battery.
If you want to record in high definition, you will need an action camera like a GoPro
To fly FPV, you will need goggles to see where the drone is going. You can also use an lcd screen but most serious pilots use goggles to fully immerse in the action.
