Why do we talk about hemp today? What is all the hustle about the benefits of hemp? There are few people who know about the versatile and incredible advantages that come from hemp plant. I am going to highlight a few of these highly useful characteristics.

Hemp Seeds
Hemp is the oldest crop which has been researched for centuries. Below are a number of Hemp seeds benefits:

  • Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats. They contain omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids which are essential for body health.
  • These are a major source of proteins and are very low in carbs.
  • The high content of vitamin E and minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and sodium etc makes hemp seeds valuable as a diet supplement.
  • Hemp seeds help keep the heart protected by the production of antioxidants.
  • They contain gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which produces prostaglandin E1. This molecule has beneficial role in hormonal imbalance and helps cure the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and menopause.
  • Thanks to the high fiber content, hemp seeds help combat constipation and improve digestion.
  • They are the source for highly nutritive and useful hemp oil.

Hemp Oil
Hemp oil nutrition is documented from the old Chinese tradition.

  • When applied to the skin, it acts as an excellent moisturizer
  • It abolishes the need of synthetic moisturizers as it acts as a natural emollient used to treat dry and dehydrated skin and nails.
  • Hemp oil is a natural hair conditioner which softens dry and damaged hair.
  • It is great oil to be used in cooking and baking because it is a healthy alternative to cooking oils
  • It contains healthy fats which help lower blood cholesterol levels thus protecting heart and arteries from bad fats.
  • Hemp oil accelerates the speed of weight loss because it kicks the metabolic rate of the body up.
  • It is great for the immunity of body.
  • It helps keep the brain healthy because of the presence of essential fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6 in abundance.
  • It has a rich nutty flavor which imparts scrumptious taste to the seasonings added to salads and other foods.

Hemp Fiber
Hemp is not only famous for its medicinal and nutritive value. It is well known for the hemp fiber used in the textile industry due to probably the greatest number of notable characteristics as compared to other fibers.

  • Hemp fiber is highly durable and handles the repeated washing well.
  • It absorbs perspiration and helps regulate the temperature better than other types of fibers.
  • Apparels made from hemp fibers appear brighter because it retains colors well.
  • Hemp fiber acts as a natural antimicrobial.
  • Its ability to absorb and protect the skin from ultraviolet rays is 50% higher than cotton fiber.
  • The fabric made of hemp fiber is highly soft in texture which gets better with each wash.

These incredible benefits of hemp products have been underrated in the modern era. This is largely because when the name ‘hemp’ is mentioned, the first thing that jumps to mind is marijuana. That is the reason why growing hemp has been banned in many countries, particularly in America. However, hemp has almost negligible quantities of active ingredients present in marijuana. Thus its beneficial uses need to be acknowledged now more than ever.

I was gonna bring this up, Im glad you mentioned it.

@analogmunky I personally adore marijuana...not just because it makes us happier but it just also great in term of natural healing.

Same here, but its a shame that Hemp is looked on as a drug when its nothing of the kind. Ignoring the fact that MJ is a wonder plant, Hemp is also a wonder plant :D

I love hemp! Such an undervalued plant! Have you ever tried hulled hemp seeds or hemp heart as they are also called? Yummy topping for salads, smoothies, yogurt, fruit, etc. Great post!

@amy-goodrich I would really love to! Unfortunately, it is not easy to get hemp seeds here....you know..
I am more using the yarn made from hemp to make clothes.

I know! I always bring a supply from Belgium when we go visit family and friends!
