Warhammer: Chaosbane classes: High-Elf Mage

in Steem Gaming4 years ago

First off let's talk about what Warhammer: Chaosbane actually is. It is a Diablo-esque hack and slash RPG game of sorts. The game is driven by the pursuit of better loot which as you would expect gets better and better the further into the game that you go. Just like Diablo, the game doesn't rely terribly on any actual strategy and the base game is actually extremely easy to beat. The added content and online multiplayer is where the real fun and challenge lies.

The skills that each characters have, as you would expect, vary widely and there are a total of 5 classes to choose from. You just need to decide which one suits you the best. Any game that is hack and slash with some exploration wouldn't be complete without a magic-user of sorts and this is where the High Elf Mage comes in.

The first thing people would probably assume about the magic user class in this game is something that would normally make sense to assume because it is that way in almost every single other game: You would assume that the mage would be off the charts with DPS but would be very squishy on defense. For some reason or another the mage is not squishy nor does he do more damage that the other classes.

It's a bit bizarre actually but all of the classes in Chaosbane seem to have a very similar attack and defense capability and the classes are more about how you attack, not how much damage it will do. Basically, if you want to throw fireballs and lightning around from a distance from a distance, be the mage.

I think one of the biggest downsides about playing as Elontir is the fact that it is the least intuitive of all the classes right out of the gate. Of course his first skill is fireball and this grows in power but the second skill you obtain is Arcane Hail, which rains "electric hail" down on the screen all over the place. The problem i have with this second skill is that it appears to strike at random and this can be very problematic since enemies tend to attack in a very organized manner.

Just like everyone else the Mage's skills get more and more complicated and diverse as the game moves on but basically you get varying degrees of fire and lightning to throw around the place.

Not all of his skills are based on being distance away either and this is a good thing because some of the enemies are very fast in Chaosbane and the screen area isn't massive so some of the mobs are on you before you even knew they were there (these are mostly trash enemies and are very easy to kill and pose little threat). So you can turn into a flamethrower to deal with these guys and that is always fun.

Basically, I don't think that the Mage should be anyone's first choice for character when they are just starting out because this is probably the most advanced class in the game. This isn't to say that it is hard because none of the classes can really be considered difficult in Chaosbane, this one just isn't as intuitive straight out of the box as the others are.
