Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered

in #games6 years ago

This was something that I got for free and has been sitting in my library for a long time. I fired it up the other day and put it on the "easy" setting because I can't really be asked for these types of games to be too difficult.

The game was originally released in 2007 but this was the "remastered" version. The graphics look pretty modern so I'm gonna guess that the remastering was largely aesthetic. I can't say for sure since I never played the original.

The story follows Nathan Drake, who is a treasure hunter / archaeologist of sorts. He carries guns and ends up getting mixed up with some dangerous people who for some reason or another are hunting the same treasure that he is in an Indiana Jones type way.

The gameplay jumps back and forth from gun battles to the solving of exceptionally easy puzzles. In many ways this game is extremely similar to Tomb Raider and if anyone out there were to suggest that it was a direct ripoff of those games I wouldn't argue with them. That is exactly what it is. That doesn't bother me at all because for the most part I found the game to be an entertaining 10 hour adventure or so.

This may have been because i dialed down the difficulty to "easy" but one of the only downsides that I could think of was that the combat was extremely repetitive. Basically you just find a place to hide and then take out your enemies one-by-one. Their AI is extremely stupid and predictable to the point where even the final boss (and the only boss in the game) was something I completed on the 3rd try.

The game was fun but nothing particularly novel, it might have been 13 years ago when it was originally released. I would say to get this game if you can get it as part of some ultra low priced collection but to not really go out of your way. The latest Tomb Raider games are better and the later Drake games likely are as well. I don't know about that yet, but I do have 3 more of them and I'll find out about Uncharted 2 later this afternoon.

Have you played this game? What did you think?

oh it's clearly very similar to Tomb Raider, but that's ok because those games were great!

yeah they were. I would argue the Tomb Raider games were a little more innovative seeing as how there really hadn't been a game like that when TR was released on PS1. That game was hella difficult too.
