WATER DRAGON

in #nature8 years ago (edited)

These Water Dragons can grow up to one metre in length, making them one of the largest Water Dragons in Australia. Whenever threatened, they can submerge themselves underwater for up to several minutes, to an hour. Although if you look at the colour of the water in this picture, it doesn't look to inviting. But this Water Dragon doesn't seem to mind.

They are also great climbers, and will use their powerful legs, and sharp claws to climb away from danger. They have a very prehistoric look about them, because of the rows of spines they have, that start from the top of their heads all the way to the tip of their tails.

I really wish this photo came out clearer, but I didn't have much time before it darted into the murky water. These Water Dragons never venture far from their watery homes. They eat a variety of insects, small reptiles and frogs, but will also eat fruits and other vegetation.

They look like they are similar to African Monitor lizards, which also hang around near water

I will have to google them, unusual critters aren't they?

For sure!
