SNF Recap: Birds vs. Boys
Last night the Philadelphia Eagles laid the hammer down on their rivals down south, the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing could satisfy more. With that said, the game was not perfect. So, here are a few likes and dislikes from last night's game.
Dislike: Slow Start The Eagles started slow this week. Real slow. Like, 35 rush yards and 0-6 third down conversions in the first half. This is not, history shows that the eagles suffer from bye weeks. They lost 24-20 in 2914 to the Cardinals, lost to Dallas 32-27 in 2015, and lost to Detroit 24-23 last year. My point? They struggle following the bye week, and last night was no different as they tailed 9-7 going into the half.
Like: Eagles Defense Once again they showed up. Big time! They registered three interceptions (McLeod, Darby and Jenkins) and returned a fumble for a touchdown (Bradham.) They - like the offense - started slow, allowing a few big runs by Alfred Morris, but they tightened up and made the rest of the game easy. They picked up the lack when the offense wasn't producing, and kept Dallas out of the end-zone despite a few nice kickoff returns, receptions, and runs. MVP was definitely Darby, who finished with eight tackles, an interception and great coverage on Dez Bryant after missing action since week 1. Welcome back Darby!
Dislike: Injury Reports I understand the game was in Dallas, but it seemed every time they went to the sideline reporter or even discussed injuries it was about either Sean Lee or Anthony Hitchens. We get it, they are injured! We don't need to see close-ups of them every timeout and hear the same story. How about give us a report on the status of Jake Elliott? You know, the eagles kicker who got concussed on the first play, missed a FG and was pulled to go to the locker room. What about him? Nothing? That's disappointing and really insulting to the fans who wanted to know why Pederson was going for two and why Kamu Grugier-Hill was doing the kickoffs.
Like: Jay Ajayi Thank you Miami. I think I said this last Eagles recap I did, but the Dolphins really messed up letting hi go. He ran for 91 yards on 7 carries including an electrifying 71 yard run to start the second half.
Dislike: Fantasies Look, the eagles are 9-1 and boast the best record in the league, but they are not the only hot team! New Orleans, the rams, Vikings and Panthers are all within striking distance, and the Eagles would be silly not to at least acknowledge that. The Saints (who are always the Eagles' Achilles heel) are 8-2 and are on an eight game win streak as well and would be the team we end up squaring off with come playoffs. In the AFC, the Steelers and Patriots are poised to meet up to decide the conference championship, and both are teams to take seriously as Super Bowl match-ups. Call me a skeptic, but just because our record is 9-1 doesn't mean that we can dismiss opponents. Our remaining schedule is no cake-walk, and will be a true test for our future.
Like: Touchdown Celebrations I'm so happy that the NFL decided to get rid of the rule that banned TD celebrations. Now that it's gone, we get awesome celebrations like this...
Taking everything from Dem Boyz
I could go on and on about the game, there were some good plays calls, some bad play calls, a comeback and a career game for undrafted Corey Clement. Thank for reading and let me know what you think of the team, the league, anything!
