Once every few months - I have a rant...

in #sorry8 years ago (edited)

I promise myself I will not to it again and I do.  I usually regret it, because that just isn't the way to get things done and I hate complainers.

Sorry about my last post being a rant.  It isn't my style nor the way I choose to conduct myself.

The dude with the color challenges on trending is posting a few shitty snap shots a day and boosting them on trending.  He's been doing it for a quite a while.  I take my own advice and downvote him each day, and wonder why nobody else is paying attention.  Check out his profile.

I get that many of you have quit looking at the trending page, but I am not talking about the bots, I am talking about curation with up and down votes.  Investment was never intended to be all passive income.  I guess I am frustrated with the lack of participation.

Again, sorry about my rant.  The bots may or may not be the problem, but it only takes a few people flagging to make it unprofitable to abuse the bots.  If I am honest, I just got overwhelmed with feeling like many are earning and not participating and I went on a ego driven pity party.

I will chill out.  :)  Sorry about my rant and a few foul comments in the comment section.  Rude isn't the way to solve problems.

We are all responsible, please consider using your influence to fight abuse and upvote and engage with content creators.

The problem is systemic. You can't possibly solve it all by yourself. Please let yourself off the hook. You are a wonderful person, always putting in so much passion and effort in everything, and should not take the burden of these problems on yourself.

There are inklings that the problem may fix itself if people simply stop looking at the trending page, and all the motivations to promote oneself there simply vanish lol.

Flagging is an imperfect solution because in a society, noone wants to make enemies, and that's what flagging gets you. And enemies stress the crap out of human beings. One enemy causes more psychic hurt than ten friends. That's the way human beings are. We can't sleep at night if we have an enemy.

It's not worth cultivating enemies. Please spare yourself this burden. I mean, do it if you want, but know that it's too horrible a thing to inflict on yourself, and you shouldn't feel guilty about not doing it, and you shouldn't be surprised that others don't want to do it.

Besides, it is so subjective as to what posts need flagging, although I concede the example above would seem to be clear-cut, since allegedly the content is plagiarized anyway.

The big picture is that bidbots should NOT be more profitable than curating.

Curators build the platform, and need to be rewarded for it, rather than dispiritedly realizing that all their efforts get them is less gain than if they simply tied their stake to bidbots and walked away.

That is an imperfect system that noone can solve but those who are authorized to code this joint, and fork it, as has happened before.

I still like Luke Stokes' and Kevin Wong's idea of increasing curation rewards at the expense of author rewards. Since the bidbots eat author rewards only, reallocating the rewards pool towards Curators, who use their heavy stakes to encourage content, seems fitting and just, as ultimately that will raise the Steem price by realigning the System in favor of the most proactive and constructive actors.

Just my thoughts lol. No flags involved. :)

You couldn't put it better.

I really like the idea of increasing curation rewards over author rewards. That will get people to look at other people's stuff. Getting people to vote will also encourage people to create content and post it here.

That is a win-win all around.

I didn't see it til now, but I love the rant and this post!

#slacker Why aren't you having more rants? #rant lol

Nah you're #notajerk; real jerks will never admit when they've gone too far. You didn't even go all the way out. If anything, I love your passion to see this place better for everyone

it has been 3 months since i looked at the trending page. i just choose new and spend a lot of time trying to find good posts to vote on. the nobidbot tag helps a little.

i keep saying all the time that if steemit learnt from this experience and became the world's curators our value would be inestimable.

you have been here long enough and have been patient with answering our own queries about the system so there is no reason for you to feel apologetic. you are one of the more active posters here and i am sure that you feel cut up over these shenanigans. it is perfectly normal.

it does not matter how hard you try, bad stuff eventually gets into your head and messes with your equilibrium. It really helps if you take a few days off.

keep writing!

well thank you for the apology . I was deeply hurt by the comments. Just kidding man, you are fine. I get it. Trending is a complete dumpster fire and it has been since I got here in january. I have just accepted that it is 100% trash and noone will do what needs to be done. trending is truely a black eye on steemit and sadly it is the first thing anyone new sees when they get here. I do like the fact that you have come around but ti is to little, to late. fulltimegeek was putting up a one man fight with no help form other whales, I ffear he has given up the good fight though.

I think people misunderstand. I am not against the bots. I got frustrated with nobody wanting to own fixing it.

  1. bot owners can use their stake... they could unvote the worst.
  2. End users can flag.
  3. Shitty users will quit doing it.

Everyone is fine with shit we get shit. Fulltimegeek is a good guy! :)

Try to look at it like this.

Some people pay for attention (upvotes). Many of them are lucky to break even or are a loss. At some point they will either have to buy more Steem to pay the bots or stop using them. During this dynamic, they build little to no audience, no engagement, no community. They stop paying, they stop getting votes.

Meanwhile others who produce organically like yourself and to a much smaller extent myself, those who follow and vote us will continue to do so. My posts may not say 300.00, but every penny of it is mine, not me sweating if I will get enough visibility to get enough organic votes to not have a loss for my post.

No apologies required, we are all people, and nobody is perfect, and it shows, you are if nothing else, just as real as I.

To be honest you shouldn't apologize to anyone. In fact this is a wake up call from you to each and every one of us. Well yeah...trending sucks. I don't even remember when was the last time I checked trending page... The way you reacted indicates a person who cares. That is the bottom line

PS I cried with the second tag
