Braided Horse Mane
They sent me this photo of a horse with a braided mane because this is the first time they have seen this. Seeing any horse in person is a rare sight for us.
After doing research, I found that horse mane braiding has been around for a very long time. Soldiers did this in the past to keep the horse's hair from getting tangled with their swords and guns as they pulled them out. It was also a way to show the prestige of the horse. Horse braiding is very popular today and I was shocked to see all of the many different and interesting "braided do's."
I found an interesting folklore too. Magical fairies visited stables at night and made knots in the horse's mane called, "Elf Knots." The knots were used by the fairies as stirrups to ride the horses around during the night.
