Am Wochenende war endlich einmal wieder Ausflugszeit! Es zog uns an die Ostsee - auf Usedom werde ich im März einige Tiere hüten (drei Pferde, drei Hunde, grob geschätzt 15 Hühner und mindestens eine Katze) und wurde eingeladen, vorab schon einmal zum Kennenlernen und Abchecken dorthin zu kommen. Das ließen wir uns nicht zweimal sagen!

Natürlich war dadurch - wie eigentlich immer - der Schnee genau dort, wo wir gerade nicht waren! Es ist wie ein Fluch ;-)) Wetter hatten wir allerdings auch, und zwar nicht zu knapp! Es war stürmisch; so einen Seegang habe ich an der Ostsee noch nicht erlebt. Das Auto hat es tüchtig hin und her gewedelt beim Fahren. Ein Ästchen traf uns auf die nagelneue Windschutzscheibe: glücklicherweise kein frischer Schaden entstanden! War jedenfalls schon krass beeindruckend. Und für einen Binnenflachländer wie mich eher ungemütlich, das muß ich leider zugeben. Zufällig gab es in unserer Unterkunft ein schönes Schachspiel - und ein Scrabble! Beides haben wir genossen ;-))

Es war eine Freude, den ersten Kontakt mit den Vierbeinern aufzunehmen, die mich dann bald drei Wochen auf dem Hals haben. Ich traf Arco - Mix aus Dänischer Dogge und irgendetwas, was zu seiner Größe auch noch Breite beisteuert, vielleicht Dogo Argentino. Coole Socke. Seiner Kraft ist er sich noch nicht recht bewußt mit seinen zwei Jahren. Außerdem warten dort ein Jack Russel Terrier namens Lotti und eine mittelgroße Mischlingshündin unbekannter Herkunft, Luna, auf mich. Eins der Pferde ist als bewährtes Therapiepferd im Einsatz, die anderen beiden müssen bis dahin noch ordentlich heranwachsen - sie sind derzeit im besten Flegelalter ;-)) Die Katzen ihrerseits fanden mich okay und @ty-ty zum Knuddeln. Alles in allem werde ich dort einen schönen Frühlingsanfang verbringen, da bin ich jetzt schon sicher!

Bei einem Ausflug kamen wir nicht umhin, uns über eine ausgewiesene HUBBRÜCKE zu wundern. Die stand da so als isoliertes Bauwerk in der Fahrrinne des Stroms herum und schien gar keinen Sinn zu haben. Als uns dann aufging, daß sie als Art Portalkran funktioniert, wo ein Schiff darunter fährt, seine Fracht nach oben weggehoben wird und auf ein weiteres, kleineres Schiff umgeladen - vermutlich wegen geringerer Breite und Tiefe des Fahrwassers in Richtung Landesinneres? - sah sie einfach nur noch gewaltig aus - und schön auf ihre industriell-schlichte Art.

Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, was ich in ein paar Wochen noch alles entdecken werde...

At the weekend it was finally excursion time again! We were drawn to the Baltic Sea - I will be looking after some animals on Usedom in March (three horses, three dogs, roughly 15 hens and at least one cat) and was invited to come there in advance to get to know them and check them out. We didn't need to be told twice!

Of course, as a result - as is actually always the case - the snow was exactly where we were not! It's like a curse ;-)) However, we also had weather, and not too scarce! It was stormy; I have never experienced such a swell on the Baltic Sea. The car was bobbing from side to side as we drove. A small branch hit our brand-new windscreen: fortunately no fresh damage was done! In any case, it was really impressive. And for an inland flatlander like me rather uncomfortable, I have to admit. Coincidentally, there was a nice chess set in our accommodation - and a Scrabble! We enjoyed both ;-))

It was a pleasure to make first contact with the four-legged friends who soon had me on their backs for three weeks. I met Arco - mix of Great Dane and something that adds width to his size, maybe Dogo Argentino. Cool sock. He's not quite aware of his strength yet at two years old. In addition, a Jack Russell Terrier named Lotti and a medium-sized mongrel dog of unknown origin, Luna, are waiting for me there. One of the horses is used as a proven therapy horse, the other two still have to grow up properly until then - they are currently in the best flailing age ;-)) The cats, for their part, found me okay and @ty-ty to cuddle. All in all, I'm going to have a lovely early spring there, I'm sure of it now!

On one outing, we couldn't help but wonder about a designated HUBBRIDGE. It was standing there as an isolated structure in the river channel and didn't seem to make any sense. When we realised that it functions as a kind of gantry crane, where a ship sails underneath, its cargo is lifted upwards and transferred to another, smaller ship - presumably because of the narrower width and depth of the fairway towards the interior? - it just looked enormous - and beautiful in its industrially simple way.

I am already very curious to see what else I will discover in a few weeks...
