SEC - S8W4. "¿It all ends with death?" / "Endet alles mit dem Tod?"

Deutsch im Anschluß…

I am a German Central European, somehow cosmopolitan and in no way religious. For all these reasons, my contribution, my point of view, should be quite different from the majority of the contributions submitted…

Are we fleeting passengers on this journey we call life, or is death only a prerequisite for reaching eternity?

That is a huge question you are asking... My tiny little answer: BOTH!

image.png
Sometimes the boundaries are fluid...

There are sayings like: "Life is lethal from the beginning" and as banal as that sounds, it is true. All of our lives are finite. We are born, grow up, live our most productive years, age and die. That is the course of events, which we should accept.

Admittedly, in recent decades (or centuries?) there has been a tendency to suppress the thought of death, to question its inevitability. I cannot interpret the efforts of medicine to artificially prolong life (partly at any price) and the ever increasing use of plastic surgery (with an exclusively cosmetic background) in any other way. Stories and utopias entwine around the elixir of life that promises eternal life to its lucky owner. We read in wonder the sagas of highlanders or vampires doomed to immortality. We feed the illusion that perhaps one day it will be possible to escape death after all. The Grim Reaper - a term that also expresses nothing but fear.

In contrast, there are also people who postulate phrases like "sweet death" or "merciful redemption". Here death is welcomed, even longed for. Modern society has little understanding for this and usually ostracises such thoughts by pathologising them. One MUST hang on to life, cling to it!

You can see that I am digressing. That's why I'm coming back to my starting point: death belongs to life, it's a part of it. It is very sad when a loved one dies. The death of a close person causes grief. This is also part of our existence. Just like all the other feelings we are capable of and partly at the mercy of. In earlier times, people dealt with the subject more objectively. They still knew about the naturalness of a limited life span and didn't waste energy on rebelling against it....

Yes, one day the time will come: we will die. Of what, under what circumstances - it doesn't matter. Our heart stops beating, the oxygen supply to the brain stops. The organs fail and the human being, who was functioning until just now, stops breathing. That's it.

image.png
"Dead man" - an arrangement of nature, photographed in the Wendland, Germany

What I mean to say is that I don't think anything comes after that, which is described as life after death or transition into an ethereal state. This conviction inevitably leads me to the certainty that one should live every single day as if it were the last one. After all, there is no chance of that later…

And I love to live! For me, this means that I consciously make clear to myself which circumstances I no longer consider worth living in (quite personally, I cannot make such a determination for anyone else!). I have defined these, written them down and put them down in the form of a legally effective living will. Yes, a self-determined end of life is also a natural death. See above: for whatever reason, the heart stops beating...

Now I have been providing arguments all along for the former point of view, that our life would be fleeting and that nothing would ever come after its end. I, on the other hand, see it differently. Apart from the fact that even after our death we are food for the myriads of bacteria and protozoa that inhabit our bodies, we then enter, again quite naturally, into the cycle of life. We rot, "turn to dust", as the saying goes. Worms and insects feed on our dead bodies, we become fertiliser in the soil on which plants grow. We are organic material that serves a purpose. So much for the infinity of our existence....

image.png
Everything is life...

With this I have probably hit the real point: we are, strictly speaking, nothing but organic cellular material that forms a kind of consciousness for a short period of time. What a pity that we do not handle this privilege better! That we sometimes trample on life, wage wars, spread hatred and do not even begin to use our potential.

I'll tell you something else: when I was 19, I was dead for a very short time. I was resuscitated for four minutes and then my heart started beating again. I did not have a near-death experience or anything like that. Absolutely nothing passed before my inner eye. However, I do remember one thing: I felt very warmly embraced and comfortably lifted. I supposedly resisted resuscitation for a long time. Does that prove anything? No. But death does not frighten me. Not then and not now. For now, I should go live a little... ;-))

Thank you, @sofian88, for your invitation! You have a good sense of what I like to deal with ;-)) Maybe @ubongudofot and @koppe would like to do the same? And maybe it would be an occasion for @event-horizon to return to active steeming with a post...?

Deutsche Version:

===================

What a coincidence that we both submitted our posts together and we are definitely not late. By the way, I am not a German or European but an Asian still preach no religion however you never know as even the atheist believe that he doesn't exist.

That means even a non-believer is a believer even if he has his own belief. Cheers! I am also a bit different on matters like these but at the end of it all, "Just in case?" So I keep a margin ...

... You would also be a good diplomat, I think ;-))

 last year

No, I am a marketing professional 😂

It's not the same...? ;-)))

 last year

No, not the same. I can even sell a diplomat.

Thank you!

For my perception in this this text , and in my comment refering to this text there is a cute but huge problem made visible .
Though there ist no way of translating a german thougt text into "english" by using a machine or pretending thyself to be the translating machine , is there ?
Even changing some words or so will not let the german conceptuation fade .
If I want to write an english text I have to think in english and use help only according to vocabulary , either my readers may be better of using their own translating software than my "correction" of machine translated german sentences .
So why considering my audience too stupid or too lazy beeing able to translate a german text by themselves or hope my "corrected" translation could be understood better than a raw mechanic one ?

!invest_vote

I agree , why should a french or a spanish audience use the english translation if a "good" german text might be translated more accurate into french and spanish than the once already translated one .
There is no need to process text over the english versions no more , is there ?
Conversations may be english for ease purpose but must´nt either , or ?

I really don't see a problem. There is the native-language text, an (arbitrary) translation, depending on the target group. I understand the latter as a service, as an offer.

When your alter ego starts to affirm you instead of ticking completely different, it's really confusing ;-)) Are the two now merging again into one unique specimen?

!invest_vote

Sonst wär's ja kein Kreis, näch...? ;-)))

Thank you so much for sharing your views regarding the death. It is good to know from you that you also believe in the life after death but you are also right that is very difficult to predict or to interpret that but will happen after the death.

Good to know from you the answers of all the things and I wish you a lot of success in this engagement challenge of season 8 and week 4 and waiting for your other entries in the other challenges also.

Thanks for reading and thinking about ;-))

My pleasure 😊

Thank you for the Invite..., I honestly respect your views when It comes to matters related to death and also matters related to religion.

What I mean to say is that I don't think anything comes after that, which is described as life after death or transition into an ethereal state.

I think we share something in common in the statement I highlighted above.

However, I have a different view when It comes to death not because I fear death..., Hopefully, I could come up with a full article on this.

Congratulation on your new community!

I hope so, too ;-))

And: I like to remember to your wonderful shortstory about a rainbow ;-)) You are a creative writer, not only a journalist. May be you join DS and become a part of it's developement... ;-))

Interesting thoughts on life after death.

Decomposition! Right. Scientific.

I shall save my thoughts for a new post.

I would be very glad to see you blogging again! Feel heartly welcome!

I'm blessed to have friends like you who haven't forgotten me even though I haven't posted in 5-6 months.

I have had my own crises and doubts. And I was always in the lucky situation that there were people who believed in me. I am curious about your thoughts on the subject ;-))
