My First Week Impression of SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

I going to be brutally honest here and it's alright if you don't like what I have to say (and it's alright if you do like it or vote it or what you do is what you will do.).

I see what appears to be a techno-geek faction that appears to control the place with their (informative) posts about the technological side of cryptocurrency and which mostly flies right over me head. These are the people, mostly guys, who really know their shitz.

I sense a bit of arrogance or aloofness in the technocracy on steemit. This will have to change if you want to be mainstream.

I see a fascination-- no, an enthusiasm, no an outright fanaticism, for the possibility of making money. This is always followed by disclaimers like, "O but not me, I just want to be a part of making the future" or "I'm here because I need validation (said no one with the social mask on).

I see a sort of strange fixation on plagiarism, as if there really is anything new under the sun.

I read a lot, mostly classic literature and poetry, and the reading here on steemit is only moderately entertaining. Like most places though, there are gems. This place has moments that shine like Tahoe snow on a warm Winter's day. That shine is the information about crypto shared by the technocrats.

Gotta go. Bye!

I understand where you're coming from when you mention some of the arrogance - but I don't see it often enough that it turns me off completely. I've also been here a little over a week, and some of the trending information i've found is very useful (such as getting into ICO's, ICO news, access to other youtubers who do coin information videos).

I think that the greatest thing steemit has going for it right now is a focus. All of us are interested in the future of cryptocurrency. At the very least - that is my interest and i've been able to find great content.

I will admit that this website currently cannot replace other social media (it simply doesn't have the volume), but I wonder if in 5 years from now this could be a true competitor to reddit in a way that other websites eventually fell.
