As I continue our walk thru culture. I could hear in my head the beating of the drums and the sounds of the gongs reaching out to my soul. This section showcases musical instrument that are a work of art on display at the National Museum of Anthropology in Manila. Join me as I share with you the..............

Roaring Melody

This instrument is called the Kulintang made from brass, wood and paint. These gongs are arranged in order from the lowest to the highest pitch in order to be able to produce a melodic tune. A Maranao instrument which comes from the island of Mindanao. Their artwork , crafts are well know especially their art of weaving.

If you would notice there is also a special seat for the player of the instrument which is intricately designed. An artwork on it's own it is called the Korsi made from wood, paint and abaca ( fiber made from a species of banana tree found in our country).

Another instrument from the Maranao called Pung. Made from brass, wood, paint and cord. A beautifully carved artwork the design and paint color distinguishes the Maranao's exceptional craft.

Also originating from Mindanao the name of this instrument is Kutyapi. It is shaped like a boat a lute carved from a single wood and has two strings. The frets are not made of brass or metal but from beeswax which is interesting material to use on an instrument.

This large drum called the Tabo or Dabu Dabu is also from the Maranao. Made from leather, wood, paint and rattan. The drum is hanged and used to call people for prayer in mosques. Different tempos are played to indicate prayer time on various times of the day. Dawn, noon, afternoon, after sunset and evenings this drum is played.

Looks like we have caught someone on camera with a smile. @bearkid is always around me when I do my shoots as she always wants to get in on the shot.

These sounds from our culture beats down from generation to generation and their Roaring Melody will never be extinguished as music is universal to all.
