24. Fu/Return (the Turning Point)

What does a cease fire, a relationship break-up and a court-room verdict have in common? Closure! The 24th hexagram is a sign of a cycle completed. It ushers out the old so that things can begin anew. It calls for a peaceful resignation between groups and individuals alike. As things have returned back to their proper place (see yesterday’s reading), new energy can pour in as the old energy is cleared.

Old yin in the 5th line

When diffusing a conflict or seeking to make an impression , it’s easy to tip-toe around the facts. One might intuit, that it’s better to not further agitate feelings and make for a clean break. The I-Ching warns against such logic. In this case, it is better to be forthright with all fuck-ups and shortcomings. Be explicit with who you are and your non-negotiable. Today, fate favours the bold, and all should be brought into full awareness.

After transition from confusion to order, there is an eerie stillness. Success is within grasp and the universe wants to deliver it to us, but we cannot slack effort as chaos is just around the corner. Perseverance and caution should be exercised where one would resort to indifference.

My intuition tells me that this reading could apply differently for different people. But if I were to single out a simple take away, it would be that things (good or bad) happen when you least expect it. Whether it’s an opportunity at your doorstep or a relationship going south without much communication, today is the day to bring about closure to overhanging matters. Closure should be executed clearly and concisely. But once things are brought to completion, stay on your P’s and Q’s for whatever is to follow.
