The first thing I ever won in my life
When I was 8 there was a contest at the local drug store for most popular kid. Thanks to my church community, I won this recorder. 1957' ish. wonder what that recorder would be worth today. technology at it's finest

That is such a beautiful photo. You are probably right, that recorder would be worth a pretty penny today.
@walkerland, I watch a show on PBS called Antiques Roadshow every so often and the prices some of these machines fetch is astronomical!
I love that program!
It would be fun to have something special to take on that show. It's been years since I have seen it. I know they were doing some roadshow pop ups in Ontario a few years back. Would have loved to attend one.
I have seen a new variation of the show that goes back a decade or more and then shows the value as it has changed from now until then. Theyve even "gamifed" it a bit allowing you to guess if the price has +/- since the date it aired. I hadn't really ever watched the show until a few year ago, but was familiar with it.
I might have a few books that I bought, at old bookstores that were closing, that might be worth standing in those long lines to find out what they're worth! I would hate to stand there to find our it's worth the 25¢ I paid 😆
It is always a surprise to me when they give value to something that is a gaudy looking vase, but worth thousands. The programs that let you guess the value today are interesting. Seems like precious metals, silver, gold, brass, and military items have gone up. I love looking at the articles from our past.
I can certainly relate! I love to collect things that had sentimental value to my relatives and much of my family often collects for me..haha Once you're known for something I guess it sticks.
A lot of the material possessions that we have today are not what they once were and most of it won't be nearly as collectible. Precious metals and jewelry will usually hold their value in good times and bad - so worth hanging on to that! Things are so mass produced today that the collectibility of it has been long gone.
I have plenty of antiques (mostly good will and flea market finds) I use them in every day life though not as collections. My mother in law nearly choked when she saw the dogs drinking out of a pink depression glass bowl.
@walkerlandI had a blast with it. Not sure what happened to it. I think when I got married and left home it stayed behind for the grandkids to play with. Gone for sure.

Yours is the first contest I have entered. :) Just able to breath again. lol So much information, my brain hurts! lol It's good for me though. Need to keep those wheels turning. My smoke detector hasn't gone off yet at least. lol
It's something fun and that everyone can relate to - I thought it was perfect for a community challenge! We've all been there! #iwasakid posts can be just about anything that 'brings you back' to those early years. I got the idea after coming across a box of toys and it brought a wave of memories to me. I thought about it and realized that we all struggle with writer's block now and again, so this is a topic that virtually all of us can write about in 1000 posts and never run out.
We all have our own unique experiences, but it is amazing to see how similar we are to others around the world. I've already learned a lot, met some new great people and I'm seeing people having fun with the challenge. I am so glad you decided to participate @warpedweaver!
I was commenting a few days ago to @fishyculture about closing the gap and realizing we all have a lot more in common than we realize. I am impressed with the uplifting spirit I have seen these past weeks. I really do feel welcome. Thanks for your support. :) I just had another idea! lol
