Life comes and goes

in #poetry6 years ago

The circumference intertwines;
the life that comes, goes.
The windows throw out the curious
from behind dusty panes;
there's an ending here & her breath
leaves a print in the wind carrying
the voice of God from lonely Sahara
to their door stoops, leaving behind
leaves old with drought & stones;
offerings for tears that curdled to stone.
They say it is not us that suffer
so they push the scream back into
tired throats & say we saw nothing.
The hawks circle, their own cycle
a long length of hunt, kill & eat,
& they thirst but we have hard skins
like armadillos & we take our tithes,
return into the darkness; the soiled
garment of our solitude, from where
you can hear us pray & curse.
