FOR HOW LONG MUST WE CONTINUE?
The Nigerian Project makes me tired and frustrated. I just wish I could find people willing to say the right thing and mean it and be willing to back up their words with actions.

I don't write much political poems because I don't like thinking of the waste and nonsense that is packaged as government in Nigeria. I love my country and I really wish things can be better. I really wish people can agree and in one mind do what is right, which is get rid of these nincompoop who have no clue what so ever what to do with power. If only wishes were that powerful eh. Enjoy the poem.
I
How long will we continue
On this path to redemption?
How long will we be flayed
On the fires of sacrifice
And lathered with the waters
Of fickle promises?
How long will we feed on grass
And dream of bread and butter?
How long will we be dragged
Along with chains
Of greed and stupidity?
How long will little ones suckle
On empty, slack breasts?
How long will thieves be raised
On pedestals and honest men
Break back on the unforgiving soil?
How long will two faced prophets
Slip slippery fingers into our pockets
With promises of fickle futures?
How long will the land be taxed
When it no longer feeds the stomach?
How long will you sit on the sidelines
And mutter about all that you detest?
How long will you stand up only to fall
For the very sin that you promised to frustrate?
How long will we continue to beg
The oppressors to ease our chains,
To give us air, water and light?
How long will we lie on the floor
And let our backs be used for footstools?
II
Something must be done
Before the sun fades to dusk,
Before the sea recedes to shore,
Before the clouds flee the skies.
Some hope, some fight must remain
Somewhere among these broken.
Some heroines and heroes must be
Out there somewhere, taking the fight
To those who seek to paint us
Into the background of our history.
There must be something we can do.
There must be something we can say.
There must be a way to salvage
This broken body that we call home.
We cannot ignore the pain forever.
We cannot flee this place forever.
There must be something we can do.
