DO YOU HAVE A CHOICE?By the fates holding looms close
To nearsighted eyes, picking loose
Each warp and weft, each thread
In a story, a place, a time.
Mingles with the quiet of cold nights
As the full moon watches
And tries to soothe broken hearts
But fails because the bed is empty
And the bar is full with the silence
Of loud music and louder laughter,
With sweaty brows and fear filled eyes,
With cracked nails and chipped lips
Smoking, drinking, praying
That the night does not cease to breathe
And that morning never comes.
Lives trying to choose,
Trying to write their story.
And chance is the first born of the fates,
So prayers are wishes
And certainty is never sure.
Morning may not come
Night might continually live
But the price is steep
And the fates, they always collect.
The solace of empty hearths,
Of broken beings.
Alcohol, smokes and warm tangled limbs;
The hunger of lonely bodies
Trying to forget, trying to pause time,
To grip his throat and hold him still,
To stop the fates their grisly office.
Can you manipulate chance?
Do you have a choice?
