How to Rebuild Your Confidence After a Career Disaster
"How to Feel Calm and Confident" is a series of eleven short video lessons on how to gain confidence and control in everyday life. The authors, Sue Betz and John Linden, say that they have combined decades of experience with their own research. They say these techniques can help you "feel like a million dollars". In a review of "How to Feel Calm and Confident", I find that most people found that their immediate reactions to new situations improved considerably: from feeling anxious and on edge to feeling calm and at ease.
The eleven videos include a simple lesson on how to breathe properly. You learn what to do and how to act, step by step. These help you practice simple exercises to changing the automatic, unconscious patterns to feeling confident and calm, step by step. Most people said these exercises improved their self-confidence greatly.
The next lesson focuses on the positive effects of visualizing your goals. Although most people said that they were not immediately aware of it, studies have shown that being able to visualize your goals as already achieved made them feel good. This same effect has been reported for imagining scenarios in which you would actually achieve your goal: people who can visualize their goals as already achieved have an easier time maintaining motivation to continue with their goal, than those who cannot visualize themselves as having reached their goals.
The final lesson teaches you how to write a powerful, effective speech, which gives you more confidence in speaking in public. You will also learn how to deal with nervous situations, in which your body language is not appropriate. Most people admitted that they felt much more relaxed, when they could consciously control their body language. During an interview, you should feel confident and comfortable, because this will increase your performance at the interview. The Power of speech is easy to understand, because it offers you three steps to effectively deal with nervous situations: prepare, speak, and relax.
To prepare for the interview, most people said that they felt much more relaxed before an interview, when they had prepared themselves with questions that were relevant to the position for which they were applying. The Power of preparedness teaches you to identify what your skills and weaknesses are, so that you can work on improving them. Once you know your strengths and weaknesses, you can work to improve your weaknesses. To prepare for an interview, you must be clear about what you want to say, and you should be able to clearly express your thoughts and feelings. Once you are calm and confident, you will naturally sound confident, without saying a thing.
Furthermore, the Power of confident, or calm, speech requires that you become as articulate as possible while still delivering a powerful message. It is important to maintain a clear tone and positive tone throughout an interview. Maintaining an upbeat, happy voice throughout an interview, will show the interviewer that you are happy to have the opportunity for the interview, and that you will be willing to display your capabilities and strengths. An interviewer will also feel much more comfortable with you, when you project a calm, confident mood, instead of one that is too nervous to express any enthusiasm.
Another great way to prepare yourself for interviews is to learn how to manage your anxiety, through exercises, or a personal development program. A personal development program can help you build your inner confidence, so that when facing an interviewer or someone in a business setting, you will feel more confident about yourself, rather than feeling anxious. These programs also help people get over their insecurities, which can be a major hurdle for many people, who struggle with their insecurities.
When you meet with an interviewer, if you have any reservations about yourself, let the interviewer know this. Don't be afraid to admit that you are having problems with your self-confidence, or that you need help with controlling your emotions. A trauma therapist may be able to offer you one-on-one therapy, in which you can discuss your issues with a trauma therapist, who can then work with you on your problem, and help you gain some inner strength and inner confidence. With a one-on-one therapy, you can get over your anxiety faster and regain your inner strength. Once you do to regain your inner strength, and confidence, you will be able to face people confidently, and have the ability to shine, when it's necessary.
