The Trip
Kaley sat in the freezing room watching her breath exit her mouth in hot bursts of steam. She was wrapped in layers of blankets and sat in a chair by the door waiting for it to open. The power went out a day ago and temperatures dropped. The fire had cooled in the grate and not even a drop of water in the pain was warm any longer.
Kaley pulled out a once warm water bottle. It had been hot last night before she slept and she sighed looking out the window. If her son didn't return soon the pipes would all freeze and so would she.
"What were we thinking coming up to the cabin 60 miles away from civilization? Of course this weather would knock out the power," she mused aloud.
In the distance she heard a motor approach and leaped from her chair forgetting how cold she was...as her blanket cocoon fell to the floor. Her Daniel was home...... with wood and hopefully food.

No, let her live ... and see her son become an alcoholic and a total failure, because she never allowed him to live his own life... treating him like her personal slave...

The fire went out in our woodstove toward morning. My husband wanted the ashes to cool so he could take them outside more easily, so we left it alone 'til we got home from a day of appointments and errands, around 5:30 p.m. It is a bit brisk in the house, but not nearly as cold as in your story!
Oh I remember those woodstove days when we had to let the ashes cool! That once upon a time when we have nothing but a wood stove was horrible LOL I don't miss those days at all. Have a wonderful weekend.

We do have electric wall heaters, too, but not all of them work, and they aren't very efficient. So we rarely use them.
