The Path

I didn't want to hear
hear the whisper through the trees
trees blinded by storms
storms hidden by our fears.
fears we didn't want to see
see the angry waves
waves crashing on the stones
stones smooth edges seared
seared by all the wounds
wounds that wouldn't heal
heal us of our hollows
hollows left by years
years that linger long
long beyond the war
war that bring on losses
losses bring on tears
tears that ran down faces
faces hiding pain
pain that breeds more sorrow
sorrow leaves us there
there we pulled for strength
strength that climbs a path
path of weeds lead upward
upward through the clouds
clouds that part in sunlight
sunlight shines through stains.
