The Instructions

Take care.
Two very simple words.
Only two.
Those two words are extremely powerful when they fall upon the ears of a recipient.
Think about it...
Under what circumstances do you say those words? Will you say them to just anyone?
I'm sure there are those people who might say them with insincerity.
I find when those words come out of my mouth they are backed with honest concern for the intended recipient.
We say those words when we are parting.
We say those words when we are not sure the next time we might see that person.
We also say those words when we are on the telephone before we disconnect.
Have you ever thought how powerful words are?
It is easiest to interpret the import of words that leave our mouths by taking a moment to consider how the same words go in to our own soul.
Those words are said when there has been a close call, like an accident.
They are also said when someone is leaving a hospital speaking to someone who is recovering.
Those words are said at funerals to survivors left behind to pick up the pieces.
Those words are said to someone who recently lost their job or who has gained a new infant in the family.
I've never really sat down and analyzed those two words before tonight.
I would venture to say that they rank right up there somewhere with I love you or I miss you. Words that express care and concern for someone else's well-being are extremely important, very powerful words.
Stop and catch yourself the next time you say the two words take care and then weigh the import of the person you are directing those two words to in your life.
What does it mean?
To take care?
To be careful?
Be safe... look out for the needs of that person cared about?
Don't do anything that would hurt yourself?
Make provision for yourself?
I know that I, for one, am warmed inside every time I hear the words take care.
