The Gift - A Five Minute Freewrite

Randy tiptoed back to the kitchen before leaving early to walk to school. While his mom was in the other room, he snuck an extra apple. He checked the fruit's surface for imperfections. When he was satisfied that he found an apple that was perfect and looked juicy inside he selected it. Quickly he rubbed the apple up against his sweater until it's smooth skin glowed. The apple was his favorite kind, a Red Delicious.

Randy ran out the door after putting the extra apple in his book bag and called out to his mother, "Goodbye, Mom!"

From the back room he heard her yell back,"I love you Randy, you're leaving early, be careful!"

When Randy arrived at school breathless from jogging and only stopping at stop signs and red lights, he was plenty early for class. He ran to his locker and pulled his books out leaving his jacket behind.

From his bookbag Randy grabbed the apple that he had selected and then headed down the hall toward Miss Jameson's classroom. This was the best year of school ever because Miss Jameson became his teacher. This was her first year at Markwell Middle School and she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen in his life.

The room was unlocked. Randy, looking backwards to make sure that he wasn't being watched, went to her desk and set the apple dead center.
He quickly walked back out the classroom door, checking for anyone and brusquely to his locker to toss his bookbag in with his jacket.

As Randy was closing his locker door, Miss Jameson passed by, heels clicking and echoing in the empty hallway.

"Good morning, Randy. It's nice to see you so early in the morning. How was your walk?"

Randy ducked head and smiled, he had a hard time staring right at her because of her beauty, but replied, "My walk was fine, Miss Jameson, thank you.

At this moment, Randy knew this was real love in spite of his friend Jamie accusing him of puppy love.
