Sam On the Outside

Because I have a cat and a bird and both do not dwell well together, Sam does not get out of the cage very often and when he does I have to monitor the situation closely. since I had a day off yesterday, and a migraine, as I sat in my chair and waited for the migraine to pass I let the bird come out of his cage for a while. As you see, he is looking down towards the ground because my rescue cat, Newt is ever near hoping that Sam will come down. if that happens, I am always there to rescue Sam. I wish the two were safe to leave together like I have seen various birds and cats dwelling in the same houses in the past. Unfortunately, Newt is not of the same mind frame.

Newt wants to be the boss and the bird (sam) cramps his style! I think birds, cats, and dogs need to be together from the beginning in order to live in harmony. I have had some that got along well and others that were mortal enemies.

I agree. I rescued Newt when Sam was long resident. Perhaps I would have changed the outcome exposing them to one another when Newt was a kitten, but life was hectic then. (but when is life not hectic?)
