Foreign Fruit - Five Minute Freewrite

Foreign Fruits

The breakfast buffet in Puerta Vallarta was an amazing sampler of fresh fruits I'd previously never had the opportunity to enjoy. At 26 I found myself in Mexico alongside my ex-husband before our divorce loading up my plate with fresh pineapple, bananas and mangos. The bright colors and scents were making choice difficult, so I took some of each fruit offered.

Here in Pennsylvania where I grew up and still reside, these fruits, along with citrus are shipped in from California or Florida, or out of the country. Picked unripe, they ripen in stores or on our cupboards and I learned that trip how much is lost from the true flavor and texture when they are shipped that way.

Native fruits to my area are apples of many varieties, grapes of many colors and flavors, strawberries, blueberries, peaches and cherries. In my refrigerator I have white grapes, bing cherries and blueberries. I take fruit each day for my morning snack, or finish what remains on my hour commute home.

I look forward to more travel since I get the opportunity to sample fruit and ethnic dishes in my travels. I have yet to travel to Europe or elsewhere, although I did go on two cruises to the Bahamas. I look forward to each trip for the food sampling. What is your favorite food not readily available where you live?

thanks for sharing this post about fruits. Many of the fruits that you mentioned in your post are available in Malaysia but all are imported from somewhere. And they are quite expensive. Such fruits are apples, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, peaches and cherries.
Common fruits are mango available locally and imported mostly front out neighboring country- Thailand
Cheers

And thank you for reading! I really do love me some fruit and I wish it was as cheap as the junk food that we can readily a buy here. I can buy it a bag of potato chips at a convenience store for a $1 but fruit cost me about $4!

Ya.. but it cost very differently in different country. Some fruits are not cheap in Malaysia either. Take for an example, it cost about RM100 per kilo for a local Musang King durian at its peak price last season. This is no-1 branded durian.
Yet there are visitor from neighboring countries purposely go for it as part of their tour iternerary.

It is local honey from Florida that I miss. I use to get it from a family owned fruit stand/bakery in Plant City. The whole shop smelled of fresh fruits, baked goods, and herbs. The orange blossom honey was amazing.
I also love fruits I am lucky to have black berry, raspberry and mulberry on my property.
I do agree the most fun thing about travel is the variety of foods to sample

I forgot about raspberry and blackberries! We have those growing wild in the county and as a teen, my mom had a patch of lovely raspberries I'd help harvest and she'd make jam! Yum. We many honey varieties here but not orange blossom.

We had the wild when I was a kid too. I was overjoyed to find there were well established plantings when we bought this place. My FIL grows blueberry I hope to get those started here.
The honey these days is just whatever is growing in the neighborhood. I feel lucky I have a neighbor with hives.
Do you have Amish shops near you? I use to love buying from those.

All fruit is so much better when eaten fresh from the tree/bush.

I see lots of travel in your future!!!

I certainly hope so! That's our goal!

oh i told you in my reply to your comment on my post to try mango , but the truth is you've tries it already , hehe. we should trade mango from me , then apple from you hehe

❤️❤️❤️

That sounds marvelous! Thank you for reading and commenting.

I love grapes and bing cherries too. I will not eat seafood unless it is during the summer and local. : )

Resident cat here, thinking how pitiful I must be because I have not eaten a mango. Here is your new prompt: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-286-5-minute-freewrite-wednesday-prompt-pitiful

Thank you for reading and I am crazy for cherries. I had a terrible week with sciatic so I have layed low. Hugs, thanks for the delivery. Sorry I missed it.

When it rains it pours, doesn't it? You have really been through the ringer lately and I sure hope your siatica gets better ASAP! Keep resting and sending you Hugs!

Thank you, dear. I am ready for some smoother sailing, for sure. We spent the day in South Bay Island, Put-in-Bay, Ohio (one of the small islands) and I was able to walk without pain yesterday. It was awesome to see. I'm so excited to be able to sit and walk without tons of pain! Happy Sunday!

Your day on the island sounds wonderful and not having tons of pain sounds even better. I hope it continues. Have a great week. : )

This reminded me of the time I was supposed to track a trip to Puerto Vallarta myself but never went :(. Definitely missed out on fruit...and drinking probably lol.

You should definitely try to go in the future if you get the opportunity. It was really what awakened my desire to travel around the states and hopefully eventually go even further. The only country I have seen apart from Mexico is Canada and the Bahamas.
