Making Magic

She sat quietly by her favourite stream. The argument between her parents seemed so senseless for her teenaged brain. They all did. She heard the word divorce bandied about again.

Kids weren't supposed to be exposed to adult matters, Gramma told them last time she visited. Mom cried each time they fought and Dad cursed and all she wanted was peace once more.

She threw a stick into the stream and the stream suddenly started bubbling. A face arose from the water. Bright blue with wide black eyes and many wrinkles.

"Don't cry, Lena. I have sent a peace spell to your home. Run!"

She jumped up and ran to the small house and threw the door open.

There her parents stood with arms wrapped around each other. They were smiling.

"Lena! Where were you?"

Lena smiled at her parents and entered their arms.

"Making magic," she said as she rested her head on her Dad's chest.
