Zutphen is 1,700+ years old. It was a Germanic settlement and an important centre of power around the year 1000, a thriving trading town around 1300 thanks to the river IJssel. In the 13th century, it was granted town privileges and became a member of the Hanseatic League. The coat of arms of Zutphen still bears the symbols of a Hanseatic city.

What an ancient little town!
It is really cute as long as you are able to live in the old centre. The outskirts look by far not like this. As I have been told it is hard for outsiders to accepted. They will ignore or bully you even after living there for many years. So it is always smart to check the people first before you get stuck and cannot leave because of being financially tied (or strangled).
Beautiful photographs. I read the review and everything, but my eyes are drawn to this photo. I love this door.It looks very elegant, I imagine it in another color, for example bronze.
I like it too even though it isn't... Green. 🤣 No, I do believe it looks better in blue it fits to the surroundings and the fact the river is nearby.
The door is good to invite tall people as well. They must have known back then the Dutch would become one of the tallest people.
