BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
That little pot of water you have outside your home for birds, the little left-over meat you give to cats, that smile you provide to people having a bad day, that ant you showed your compassion to which you were tempted to step on, those flowers you water every morning don't go in vain. Everything returns to you at times you need these good acts you have done and forgot about. Everything returns back to you in better shape or form in marvelous ways. I totally understand it isn't easy to be kind all the time. It is too unreal for the contemporary times where people lose patience, coolness, and kindness in one fell swoop. But when you observe that you, I & these creatures are the art of the One Creator, Who rewards us for every kindness we show towards His creation, it becomes a lot easier to swallow pride, anger, the sense of feeling significant and show mercy.
Our results, are based on two things, luck and habits. I wanna make this topic simple as possible. Luck is something we can't control, and habits are something we can. Instead of worrying about uncontrollable factors, why don't we shift our focus towards what we can control?
So, what really are habits?
Speaking roughly, habits simple are action our mind repeat when it meets any familiar situation it already has learned to take action in, without losing much energy in thinking, and finding the right way of doing it.
When we sleep, eat, rest or do any activity to regain our energy, it is often drained through stuff that doesn't serve the right purpose or which is important and is supposed to be done every day, but our mind uses up that filled energy and we lose the most of it even before doing something far important. For example, if someone hasn't made exercise his or her daily habit, they will end up thinking that they did enough for a day just by doing that. Because it isn't a habit, the mind much energy doing it. But what remarkable is, when something is made as a habit, our mind doesn't lose much energy and it finds pleasure in doing it, and that what makes bad habits, not only a road to failure but an enemy in disguise. If someone has made watching a movie a daily habit, they will find pleasure in doing it, and most probably they won't be losing any energy, but in the long-term, the consequences are fatal, and the forces to shift our focus to good habits, so why not change them before meeting any unfavorable event.
Imagine someone trying to lose weight. He has this picture of himself, looking like a handsome, muscular man. But is imagining enough?
Of course, the process is something that determines whether or not that individual is going to achieve. The process of reaching any goal is often considered the most painful of journeys. But what if the journey itself becomes a habit? What if, everything our goals require gives us pleasure every time we do it, and it gives us more reason to repeat it because we enjoy doing it, and end up achieving our goals too?
That's what having the right habits do for you. If you take a shower every day, you can tell that you will uncomfortable all day if you haven't taken it on any particular day. You will not feel like LIVING a day as long as you don't take it. Though for many, taking shower is pretty challenging, somehow it is easy to do it and difficult not to do it FOR YOU. Why is that?
Because you have made this act a habit.
Though I intended to keep this mail short, before completing it, I want to leave you with something, and that's, how to change your habits in the first place?
And the answer is by finding the right meaning in doing what you wanna do. For example, if you want to lose weight, exercise, and once you are done with the exercise, imagine yourself as someone who has BECOME, what you imagined yourself earlier. This makes changing the right from wrong ones easier. Because you receive immediate gratification. Many people find deluding themselves hard. But that's simply a lack of their control over their brain. And take that grip on it, you can't control your mind instantaneously if you have less control over it. And the only way to start steering your brain instead of it steers you is by practicing every day, to do things your brain finds discomfort in. Like, doing the right difficult things, instead of the wrong easy stuff.
