The Snow Returned - Short Trip to the Lakes - MyPictureDay Submission

in #mypictureday6 years ago

Hi Steemians, we have just arrived back after a brief trip to the Lakes. We didn't expect to see anymore snow this year until Winter but the first night we were there we woke up to a good few more inches! So armed with layers of clothes we braved the cold to go get some photographs! Hope you enjoy the post! - Verity x

We love taking a few nights off work away somewhere. This time it was to the Lake District. It's just full of amazing places to go walking and exploring that it really is just an endless source of inspiration. We thought seeing as it was mid-March we would be seeing lots of pretty flowers blossoming and colours around, but oh no, the arctic conditions aren't done with us yet! We thought it was rather cold the night we got there so went to bed looking forward to the next day of sunshine! How surprised we were to wake up to a few inches of snow! It was awfully windy too which made it even colder to be out and about. Wanting to make the most of our trip away we tried to wrap up as warm as we could and ventured out. We wanted to do a long walk but chose to do a smaller one and then explore from the comfort of our car for the rest of the day! I wanted to get up a bit higher to see more of the snow and as we drove up this amazing path we came across this amazing dip in the valley and knew it was a great spot to stop and take some photographs! I braved the harsh winds and jumped out of the car to get these shots of the snow blowing across the valley.

Not exactly what I thought we would be photographing this week but I was happy I had found a good spot to see the wind blowing across the fields. I am not sure if I prefer it in black and white or colour but thought I would include both!

My hands were freezing and it was almost unbearable in the harsh winds, they were so cold and it was blowing all the snow even harder. I really wanted to try and capture the snow moving across the fields and tried my best to capture it in these shots below! I don't think it quite did it justice though!

It was early afternoon when I took these photographs but it was so, so dark you could think that it was just after the sun went down. I couldn't believe the conditions we were getting, it hasn't snowed like this at this time of year for a good few years. We have often had snow on Easter so it's not unheard of but this Winter has been so long I think we were quite looking forward to some sunshine!

This pretty little door leading to the field was so cute, I had to get a photo of it from across the narrow road. I am not sure what the door was used for or even if it is still in use as it was so small that it seemed to be an odd size for a door to a field! It made a nice photo though!

As I continued to walk down the road a little the sun appeared just for a second and lit up the old barn, it was a lovely bit of light among all the dark clouds full of snow. As you all know, I really do love the snow, but this day was bitter and cold and not very nice at all! I didn't want to stay out in it for much longer so only took a few more photos before retreating back into the car!

Making the most of the light that was making it's way through the clouds I framed the light rays near this amazing tree. I loved how this tree was growing out of the stone wall into the field, it looked so old and wise. The textures on the tree bark were so interesting and in black and white it brought them out anymore!

We continued to explore from the warmth of our car which was such a good idea!! As we made our way down the hill we stopped again to get out and get a few shots over another field. This amazing iron fence was really beautiful and I loved the light coming through on the fields in the background.

It's always odd to see new born lambs wit snow around them, you can't help but feel sorry for them and for the farmers, it can't be easy when you have so much going on with lambing and then this weather comes to make it even worse!

As we continued to drive around the Lakes we went to the Langdales and drove up lovely country paths to get some more of the views. There wasn't as much snow here and luckily the harsh, bitter winds had stopped! It was still really cold but we still got out to take some more shots! Some people were out horse riding which must be an amazing way to take in the views and the very fresh air!

I love this view, you can see all the long and windy roads and the mountains surrounding them in the distance. The view is constantly changing and is never the same no matter when we come back. I loved all the colours coming through the snow.

We came across this lovely lone tree. It did look a bit out of place on the hillside all alone but I loved how it was all green. It was so pretty with little bits of snow on the ground too.

After getting cold to the bones outside we went back to our lodge to get warm and get some food. I am so glad we did venture out into the cold as I really love some of these shots! I always tend to like moody, darker images so these fitted that perfectly !! We headed back out later to just have a little walk with the dog near some pretty jetty's next to the lake. The snow had cleared and the winds had stopped and the sunshine showed up too! It was a lovely evening. We had such a nice break, we always do when we come here, I can't wait till our next trip!

Hope you have enjoyed this little trip to the Lakes with me! Hopefully next time it will be more colourful!
