Exploring Tarn Hows, Lake District!

in #travel8 years ago

Morning Dew

A cold November morning we wanted to go for a nice walk in the Lake District. It's one of our favourite locations to go and we thought we would go somewhere new for a change! We had a book on great walks and chose to go to Tarn Hows. The walk started with me getting lots of details of the lovely droplets of dew on some little plants! I thought they looked so great against the dark background!

Fungi

Along the walk there were also lots of different types of Fungi! It's always great to find all types of nature and wildlife out on out walks and discovering new species we haven't seen before!

Orca Cows

On the walk up to the Tarn we also saw what I call "Orca Cows" !! Mainly because they remind me of Orca whales! They are however called Belted cows! I am a little afraid of cows after a harrowing experience of a highland cow pointing its head through our car window when I was 4, so I like to keep a safe distance !

The View into the Valley

We came across a clearing where you could see all the way down the valley, even though it was a dark and grey day it was all still so beautiful!

Tarn Hows

We made it! It was a lovely walk around the Tarn that was very well laid out, perfect for children too, very easy to navigate on a well built path. The colours left over from autumn where so bright, almost lifting the clouds! The Lake had a few islands scattered across it, I always wonder what lies on the islands out there!

The view Above

I always like to look up wherever we go, not just eye level. It's amazing what else you can see, I find you discover so many hidden gems in cities if you do this, but out here in the wilderness the trees reaching out to the sky also create so much beauty!

This amazing tree was something out of a film. It must have been very old and the way the branches just were reaching out all over the place was amazing to see. Some people believe trees are spiritual beings, and if so this one is definitely a strong one!

Running up the Hill

We had loved the walk round Tarn Hows, probably as much as our dog. Running around and finding new view points and things to photograph. It's a great little spot to go for a walk, and if you are visitor to the Lakes i'm sure you'll know that this weather is pretty much what you get 80 percent of the time!

I hope you've enjoyed the little walk around the Lakes and look forward to sharing more soon!

Aww thank you, that's so kind of you to say!

This reminded me of my mushroom collecting trip with a valuable friend in the Finnish jungle... thanks for sharing!

Awesome! Thank you, never been mushroom collecting! It's always so interesting to see what nature give you on these little trips!

If you ever travel to Finland, try to collect some chanterelle mushrooms - but before doing that, definitely talk to a Finnish dad/mum about how to avoid putting the poisonous ones into your basket :D and if you're lucky, they might even be generous enough to show you some of their own secret mushroom collecting areas ;)

Oh wow, I would love that! Thank you for the tips! I’ve always loved the idea of foraging but yes scared of picking the wrong ones !!
