The Langsa City Government in collaboration with the Directorate General, Watershed and Protection Forest of the Ministry of Environment (PDASHL KLHK) planted 5,000 mangrove trees in Kuala Langsa Village, Langsa Barat District, Aceh, Friday (8/2/2019).
The activity was as a form of developing mangrove forest ecotourism which became one of the most popular tourist attractions in Langsa City.
The Mayor of Langsa, Usman Abdullah, in the official website of the Langsa City Government said his government was focused on developing ecotourism.
"Langsa has quite extensive wetlands, with 30 species of mangroves, there are also endemic fauna such as dolphins, birds and monkeys, this is the most favored by visitors.
He stressed, the Langsa City Government seeks to implement the concept of welfare-based conservation through the development of mangrove forest ecotourism. It is hoped that mangrove sustainability will be expected, community income will increase, employment will be created, and community welfare will be better.
Previous replanting of mangrove forests also worked with a number of domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations.
In addition, the village community is also expected to be able to form officers to guard the mangrove forest, to increase community knowledge and skills to use non-timber, such as making mangrove syrup, mangrove dodol and so on.
