Retro : Silent Hill Homecomming

Silent Hill Homecomming is starting to get interesting. As a war veteran Alex Shepherd we are taken to Alchemilla Hospital (we will get to know this place a little bit closer in the next part, done by the fans - unofficial). A tour of more or less famous places awaits us, traditionally many endings and from 10 to 12 hours of gameplay.

The game is a typical representative of survival horror , reminiscent of what we have already seen in other parts of the cycle. The fifth part (as well as I count) contains a little bit of news, not revolutionary for mechanics, but good and this . The novelties are, among others, avoidance, combos system, switching to FPP mode when shooting from a firearm, which makes it easier to aim. We also resigned from the system of item breakability (from the parts of The Room) for hand-to-hand combat planks, golf clubs, etc.

The mechanics of the game is well known to us. we move from location to location, we look for maps and other gadgets, we fight. The only thing that still surprises us is the puzzles that we will have to solve. The minus that can in some way interfere, especially fans of the series is the fact that our hero is a soldier, properly trained in combat - which translates into a large arsenal of firearms in the game . This leads sometimes to the lack of this climate of horror from the older scenes, we no longer have to count the bullets, or not to kill all the enemies because we save equipment - now we shoot at everything that moves.

There is also a nice story line, strongly connected with the heavy depression of our hero, which is the closest to the second part of the cycle. Visual setting as usual of good quality - we have here a well-known grainy filter showing the misty, grey and depressing world. The soundtrack by Akira Yamaoke is at the highest level and reflects the character of the game.

The game is not bad ( Metacritic -users score 6.5 ), but it's not the Silent Hill we know from page views 1-3 . Something is missing here; despite changes in the gameplay, improvements in graphics and animation - the game / series is heading towards action games, not survival horror . This does not change the fact that the game had fun and certainly not only me, but the fact is that the "legendary" games are required more.
My rating is 7/10
Available for purchase on Steam platform for about $28.

An interesting review, its always fun to play some old classics and see them through the eye of today's games :) I never was a fun of the puzzles in these games despite completing a few Resident Evil games!
