Is Ethereum Really More Decentralized Than Bitcoin?

in #ethereum8 years ago

Earlier this year, a group of Cornell University researchers have published a paper which sought to compare the independent nodes of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Their findings pointed out that most nodes of BTC are owned by corporate interests and big miners, while ETH does in fact have more unaffiliated supporters who run nodes to verify transactions. Their conclusion, according to this methodology, was that Ethereum is more decentralized than Bitcoin.

However, I've written an entire article to argue why the statement is only true in a very narrow context that has to to with technicalities, not with protocol or community facts. Bitcoin doesn't have an influential founder to act like a benevolent dictator, has no history of reversing transactions for the benefit of a selected elite, doesn't rely on ICOs to have a high price, and can be censored by governments.
