Cinematic Ballad Day 1

Last night I began my journey to create a new song every week, and nothing is more intimidating than staring at a blank screen. I usually spend hours upon hours working on melodies until I write something that truly inspires me. Because I'm challenging myself to produce a new song every week, I quickly realized that I had to speed up my process (a lot). I eventually began going through a few of my old, unfinished project files from the summer and stumbled upon something I completely forgot about.

When I first opened the file, it was simply a couple MIDI phrases. I spent time arranging the different sections of the song. Currently, it begins as a slow piano ballad then quickly adds energy until the climax. The melody is still in its early stage, so I will be working on it throughout the week to make the different sections transition smoothly into each other.

I also worked on the percussion elements of the song. Because my goal for this song is for it to be ballad like, I want to create something that drives the song, but doesn't distract from melody. I wasn't able to get it last night, so that will be my top priority today.

This is definitely not a style I have a lot of experience with. And if I wasn't challenging myself to create a new song every week, I probably wouldn't have rediscovered this file. That being said, I'm extremely excited to continue working on it because this will absolutely be a challenge for me, and I'm excited to see what people think!
