Steem Engagement Challenge S7-W4: The secret of my seasoning.

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are doing well...

I'm a person who doesn't like to spend much time in the kitchen but, that doesn't mean I don't like cooking. I'm fond of simple recipes and love trying them whenever I get time. Especially when you have a kid at home you anyway don't have enough time to cook what you really wanted to eat. These days I go with very simple food menus and I really love it! This contest is very interesting to me because I love homemade cook so I really wanted to participate in this contest "The Secret of my seasoning"

🔸 Do you think you have the seasoning to prepare your meals? Why? If you consider yourself lacking in seasoning or you don't like cooking, share your experience with us as well.

My mom always said that "you should learn to prepare something by yourself". We love eating our mom's food. She is a good chef, her food is extraordinarily delicious and everyone says the same after trying her food. From a very young age, I started helping my mom with cooking. I slowly learned to make simple foods under her supervision.

I feel making food for the family is a responsible task. Because the health of your family is totally in your hands. Not just the taste that matters, the hygiene of the food and how healthy the food you prepare is important things to consider when cooking. I cook food for the family with love.

The answer to the question asked above is: Yes! I have the seasoning to prepare meals. Chili powder, chili flakes, turmeric powder, Pepper Powder, and roasted/unroasted curry powder is made at home by ourselves. It's completely natural and no additional tasters or preservatives are added to our meals. I believe the taste of natural spices is my secret of seasoning.

The flavor and aroma of food made from natural ingredients are mouthwatering. My family loves the food I cook. They really admire my hard work and enjoy the food happily. I think serving delicious meals is another form of expressing love to the family.

🔸 Who taught you to cook? Or how did you learn to do it?

My mom taught me how to cook, and helping her to prepare different meals made me learn quickly. Whenever she goes to the kitchen to prepare meals for us, I go with her to help. She involves me in every step, and later I automatically got the idea of the food made. I also learn new recipes from youtube. We both try new recipes at home and adjust them in our ways. I think anybody can cook if there is a willingness and a passion to cook. I watched it just by seeing how my mom does it. Now I make some meals better than her, In my own way. I'm lucky to have someone like her as she taught me to make every dish in the most healthiest and hygienic way while having a good flavourful taste.

🔸 Do you consider seasoning to be innate, inherited or learned? If you have any study or specialty in the culinary art, you can refer to it

I think it depends on the person, sometimes it can be an inborn talent or something that passes down from generation to generation. Or maybe a combination of all three. For me, I think it's a combination of all three. Sometimes I feel I get it naturally like what to be done next rather than sticking to a recipe. I use my own ideas and the teachings of my mom.
That actually works well for me and everyone loves the change of taste.

🔸 What are the condiments that you consider should not be missing in your meals to give them excellent seasoning.

As you all may know, Sri Lankan cuisine is all about spices and condiments. We use different spices and condiments in each dish to enhance its flavor and fragrance. Many spices and herbs are used to make Sri Lankan condiments so it's beneficial for health too! There are many that I don't miss when cooking but I will mention what is mostly used.

  1. Black Pepper
  2. Turmeric
  3. Sri Lankan Curry Powder (Also known as Thuna Paha)
  4. Mustard seeds
  5. Cardamom
  6. Cloves
  7. Curry leaves
  8. Pandan leaves
  9. Fennel/Cumin/Fenugreek seeds
  10. Salt

🔸 What are the meals that your family likes the most, you prepare them with your fabulous seasoning.

It is actually something hard to answer as they love everything I prepare. I have never thrown any meals that I have prepared into the bin. My husband loves my cooking and he rarely likes to eat food from outside. My secret to my seasoning is the natural ingredients used in the dishes. Proper seasoning is the way to a healthy life and a happy family.

Here are a few meals that I made using my seasoning skills

Sri Lankan tempered chickpeas

Chicken & Veg Soup

Healthy easy breakfast - Roti & Egg with Cheese

Lunch meal - 1

Lunch meal - 2

Lunch meal - 3

I invite @liasteem @hasini @inudi to participate in this wonderful contest.
