The National Settlement Depository (NRM), which acts as the central depository of the Moscow Stock Exchange, intends to create a platform based on the blockbuster for comprehensive maintenance of digital assets, the depositary's press service said.
NRM, together with market participants, is only studying the prospects of this direction in the light of regulatory initiatives. According to our estimates, the technology of the securities market has prospects for accounting for crypto-active assets, the statement said.
The NRM platform will be a set of services and a "bridge" connecting digital assets and a payment system that operates with fiat currencies. The platform will keep a record of digital assets, settlements on them, store private keys of crypto-currency, and also identify owners of crypto-currency purses.
In addition, the platform may contain a service for evaluating digital assets based on data received from major crypto-exchange exchanges. However, "it is premature to talk about any specific plans yet."
The technical part of the project, estimated at $ 200,000, will be dealt with by the Waves crypto assets platform. According to the head of the company Alexander Ivanov, experts have already started developing a prototype, the release of which is planned in September 2018.
From a technical point of view, this project is not difficult to implement. Much more difficult - from the conceptual, organizational side, - he said. - The main problem is the lack of clear legal mechanisms that allow us to operate with digital assets. That's why the NRM is so cautious in their plans.
The press service of the depositary emphasizes that the NSD expects changes in legislation regarding crypto assets in order to minimize the risks of ownership.
