Does our Universe have any shape to it ?

in #science9 years ago

Hey! I'm wondering, scientist say our universe is expanding! If that's so, what's the shape of our universe ?!

*Is it round / square ?
*Or any interesting shape that we don't know.
*Or no shape at all! Infinite ?

If we don't know the boundaries, the how can someone say it's expanding ?!

We can compare with a balloon to get this answer. You can draw dots with a pen on a balloon and start inflating the balloon. You will be able to observe the dots getting away from each other. You balloon is expanding.

There are also many measurements that allow us to conclude that the universe is not only expanding, but that it expands faster and faster. We are not talking about a single observation here, but many.

Hey thanks for response.... What about the shape ?!
And I understood the comparison with a balloon. Think is the balloon expands till there is a space! So my question is about the space or that infinite space.

The universe is, on large scales, mostly flat. There are small-scale deformations due to the masses of the objects that lie inside it. You can see it as a sheet of paper that is deformed by some heavy marbles, more or less. I hope the comparison was clear enough ^^
