Here is an extra thought: What if we had all smart devices securely connected......and then face a network congestion? Decentralization needs a fail-safe as there is no such thing as perfect systems.

Most important part is the fail-safe. It's the difference between the Machine City and Zion in Matrix. If you can turn them off, you are in control. If you are not, you at mercy. Also congestion is a major problem. Think about how much of a joke IOTA was and what if all the smart home devices depended on the IOTA network.
