Animation: The World's 10 Largest Economies by GDP (1960-Today)
This rapid-paced animation shows year-by-year changes in GDP for the world's 10 largest economies over the course of 57 years. It's a really interesting thing to see with a lot of changes happening. The early growth of Japan and later the growth of India and China are great to see. But the population did play a large role when it comes to India and China.

The US and China are going to continue to dominate like they did the last 30 years. We saw the EU form to try and combat that but it is falling apart. It never really worked anyway.
The problem is that except for few smaller coutries, nobody is giiving free markets a chance. EU was a bureaucratic mess from the beginning that was bound to fail.But I do have faith in few smaller nations such as Luxembourg, Switzerland and Estonia.
Very cool post. One thing I noticed was the Japan run up. For a while, it was catching up to the US before it suffered a multi-decade long fallback. China had an impressive run. I wonder if they will suffer the same fate building their economy totally on debt.
Most Chinese people aren't even middle class yet (according to US standards) Even though their are fueled on debt things will be relatively sustainable due to hundreds of millions joining middle class.
As for Japan, I heard in an investment presentation that Japanese market boomed 40 times and people started getting out after all the growth. Ten it grew another 40 time (1600 times in total) before everything got stuck in the 90s.
I was impressed, how quick China was going up. Within some years it came from nothing to the 2nd place.
