A Few Thoughts from Web3 Summit 2018 | SafeNetwork
Bitcoin is simply the first cryptocurrency project that got released. the oldest crypto project I know of is Elastos. Just click on the link to read my article on that underrated gem. After few years, MaidSafe began development. Out of all the projects popping up to replace the internet itself, MaidSafe has the most development time based on what I know. It's a project worth keeping an eye on.
The internet was built for connectivity — not for security. However, the Web today fails in achieving even that basic aim. Because Web3 is not a new term. It was previously used to describe the Semantic Web — the dream of connecting data between the platform silos that was originally championed by Sir Tim Berners-Lee amongst others. And on today’s web, data portability is little more than a dream.
And whilst there is an overlap between the two communities (crypto to web standards), it’s not a perfect fit and those are many conversations that need to take place between the groups. It’s a key reason why we at MaidSafe are working to build ensure that TBL’s SOLID project is compatible with the SAFE Network, for example.
MaidSafe working with SOLID is a huge news. That is like saying STEEM works with Bitshares. It's 2 projects with great potential coming together.

What a great write up about the conference. I agree that we need to move beyond the present internet and the centralized model that favors only a few companies. The power needs to be distributed which will not happen as it is presently constructed.
This really does clarify the difference versions of the Internet. Internet 1.0 was static websites 2.0 allowed for interaction and now we are working on 3.0.
I have been following the development of MaidSafe for about 4 years now. I invested in MaidSafe about a year ago, no huge amount, but just a small investment as I put into several things I thought were worthy and had a real purpose and chance of making it. Although my investment is worth less now (and what isn't today) I still believe MaidSafe is on the right track for a truly decentralized internet.
